I have not really had much trouble with fuel smell except in the late fall of 2014 it did stink real bad for about 2 or 3 tanks. I can understand from that experience how irritating it could be if it happened all the time. It then seemed to fix itself and had no issues for all of the 2015 driving season. Last fall I got the upgrade kit from BRP. No it was not free but I tried.
Here is a picture of both purge systems. Old on the left and new on the right.
Here is picture of the new installed.
I don't expect to see any difference since it worked well for all the 2015 season. But this will keep it current.
One unusual thing I noticed was the inside of the purge vent nipple on the throttle body had a layer of black stuff on it and I cleaned it out with a Q-tip. My guess it was carbon from the canister. That explains the filter they added.
I replaced the purge line, not vent line. This is a new part assembly as replacement for 2013 to 2015 RS and ST models. It replaces the purge valve. Not sure why. Adds a filter. I can see why with the crap that I found. Adds a check valve. Must have had cases of blow back maybe? Adds a reducer to change hose sizes.
If you don't mind my asking, how much did that kit run you?

2022 White Pearl F3T
Gone but not forgotten: 2019 F3S Special Series Liquid Titanium
Is this something that would help a 2012 RTL with intermittant gas smell?
I fixed mine and also prevented any gas from going into the EVAC at the same time.....cost me $ 4.00 +/- ....this was done on an 08 GS and 11 RS........I'm not sure how the RT is configuered ......Mike

I have not seen a recommendation for how often it should be replaced. But since it is mounted in front of the fuel filter. Held on by the same bolt and is the same part as the fuel filter. Next time I change the fuel filter. I will buy 2 and change both.
