    Default Spyder RT tire options

I just bought a 2014 RT Limited. I am wondering what tire options I have when its time to replace. Do I have to stick with the original brand and size?

A lot of that might depend upon your dealer.

Some of them won't mount anything but an OEM-style tire.
Others are not so "tight-collared" about the whole thing.
Since you've got lots of time; why not take advantage of the Search Function in here.
You'll find enough thread about tires... to tire you out!

Default Just dropped mine off for a new sneaker

Took my 2014 rts in yesterday for a new rear Kuhmo sneaker install. I purchased online and all three dealers in my area were willing to install. Bob is right though, there is hours and hours of tire enjoyment reading ahead for you. Quick recap though from a fellow new spyder rider.....The stock tires are quite soft and your mileage will most likely be disappointing. Many, myself included, opted to replace the rear with an aftermarket tire. There are a coup,e options that you will see pop up over and over again. Welcome to the Spyder family and good luck on the tires....

The only dealer within about 40 miles, who i dont really care for anyway, told me they would only mount Kenda. They gave some crap excuse about these being the only ones for a spyder or some such. What it actually comes down to is money (surprise surprise) Can Am gets the tires dirt cheap by telling everyone who buys a spyder they must use Kenda. I have a new spyder so i will ride the Kendas as long as they will last and then look at something else. I love Michellin so might see if they have anything that will fit. I assume the new larger rim size will help with that.

    Default options

Just did this myself. Lots of options, if your dealer will mount aftermarket tires for you. I put a Sumitomo HTR a/s P01 on the rear, in 215/60r15. BRP dealer did the install, with warnings about the diameter increase.
I went with that tire because it was available locally, a symmetrical, unidirectional tread pattern, and inexpensive despite decent ratings. ($59, 480 A A rated, 65,000 miles for auto use).
Use search here, there are quite a few good alternatives listed on the site. I was jonesing to ride, so I didn't dig too deep. My original tire was gone at 12,000 miles. I do really like the new tire so far.

Is it DOT, or Snell approved?
Do you have to use the chinstrap, for the warranty to be valid?
