I'm thinking about ordering the BRP driver's backrest for my BRP comfort seat. Is this the correct backrest, part number: 219400689, and is it adjustable or do I still have to purchase the adjustable kit?

Will do. I purchased "The BRP Comfort Seat" late fall last year and found it be very comfortable. Especially, the extra 2 inches of leg room for using my highway web pegs. I am just needing a little farther up the back support than what the seat provides.

I bought the backrest and also have the heated comfort seat. The backrest is adjustable, but only with a Torx bit. Basically it's just got a stop bolt that limits the angle. It does flip flat forward to allow easier access for your passenger, and is spring-loaded upright. I find it difficult to remove since you have to have the seat open, one hand on the release lever, and pull up the backrest to remove it. There really is no need for the locking lever on the underside. This thing certainly won't fall out. Also, it can be difficult to remove and replace the plastic cap over the seat hole when you don't want the backrest on.
Not trying to sound negative about it; I love it! You will want to set the adjustment for what you normally wear when riding. For instance, the angle that feels right just sitting on the seat is not the same angle you'll want if you normally ride with a jacket that has the armoured back plates.
No doubt the backrest is way over priced. However, the cut out shape of the backrest is the only one I've seen that will not cause the wife any issues. With the BRP comfort seat moving me back two inches, that takes away from the real estate room she has.

Actually, that is a very good point.
I have the Ultimate Backrest on my 2013 RT with the comfort seat. (There is no BRP backrest for the 2013 seat, and no option to upgrade the seat and get it in the tan color that came with my Spyder.) The Ultimate Backrest is much less expensive. I love it. It is adjustable, well made, very comfortable, and it looks VERY nice on my bike. But the lack of those "cut-outs" could make it very uncomfortable for all but the most petite back-seat passenger on a BRP comfort seat, due to the limited space back there with the comfort seat.
I ordered the backrest. It is scheduled to be delivered next Wednesday.
I was going to say that I just put one up for sale in new condition (in the 4 Sale By Owner Section), but mine is for the stock seat. Yeah, those things are very expensive, but it is a very comfortable backrest, and matches the seat very well. Its also easy to remove and put the plug back in the seat if you don't want it on there for any reason (sometimes I would wear a hydration backpack and the backrest was in the way).
The locking latch deters theft of your $450 backrest. Which I have observed people pull on my backrest to see if it would come off.
Not against the anti-theft latch at all. It's just that mine is still very hard to pull up when holding the latch out of the way. Almost need a third hand.

They can get a little dirty, try some WD40. I will say from personal experience that if the backrest is not properly latched it will try to fly away.

Backrest came in yesterday. It took all of 5 minutes to put it on. I did a preset for the angle of the backrest. I won't get to test it out until Friday. I'll report back my findings on how it works out.

I was able to put in a 230 miles day ride in this past Saturday. The new adjustable BRP backrest worked out really well. I'm very pleased with it even though it's over-priced. Also, my BRP comfort seat is finally broke in. I could ride all day on the seat and with the added comfort of the backrest. The extra 2" of leg room from the comfort seat made all the difference for me.
