Default Anyone travel with their dog(s)?

We have two Portuguese Water Dogs (note the avatar). Since we just got our Spyder, I'm already feeling guilty that we'll be leaving them at home a lot. Is there any thoughts on how to travel with two large dogs? Are their dog trailers for motorcycles that will care them? They weigh 170 pounds combined.

We carry our little Tink in a pouch...
But that's not going to help you...
There are pet trailers out there, and I think that one of our members has a lot of experience with them...

...But I'm just not remembering their name right now!
(They've got a really large signature picture, that shows their bikes with the trailers in tow...)

    Hopefully they'll chime in!

    Default traveling with dogs

Our English Setter (about 45 lbs) has logged over 7,000 miles in her trailer, it is about as larg as one of the very large dog crates you see in the stores. The company that made ours is no longer in buisness but Easyridercamper makes one just like ours. There are a number of dog traiers on the market and none of them are cheap but then what is your dog worth? Trina has been able to travel all over the country with us and is a true Road Warrior.

My neighbour in the apartment above me has a dog like this. Her dog is called Mango. Her dog is quite yappy with me and she suggests having some dog treats with me next time I see her. A beautiful looking dog you have there Bob.

Don't have a dog or a trailer. BUT I did see a dog in a big old trailer whilst on a long distance ride. They were in a parking lot, and the dog was lolling in his trailer/ rolling spa & vacation home. I could see a water dish and food dish, apparently there was a bed in there too, possibly a small kitchen and fire hydrant. When I talked to the owner, he said the dog would wait outside the trailer, looking longingly at it and his owner, hoping for ride most days. When they stopped, the dog reluctantly stepped out of the trailer to relieve himself on the grass. Then he waited at the trailer for his people to quit f**king around and get moving again.

    Good look on your quest.

people do all kinds of crazy things with their dogs. I am sure someone will post a picture of their back seat contraptions. i dont have a dog any more but i would be sketchy about taking one, any accidents and they are done for. Thats just me, lots of people do it.

    Default traveling with dogs

In a previous reply I posted photos of our dog trailer, one weekend I needed to pull our tent trailer and haul the dog so I made a back seat carrier for our setter, I also bought a seat harness and doggles for her eyes, I was only going about 60 miles so I decided it was worth the risk and shr had no problem riding this way and enjoyed it once we were in the mountains.

We have traveled with 1 to 3 dogs for years. All reservations are via bring fido.com La Quinta is pet friendly hotel of choice and of all of the carriers we have used the Kuryakyn Pet Palace has worked the best. Their safety is #1 and we take precautions for the worst case scenario. They seem to love it and we love having them.

I hate to leave my dogs at home too but would hate more if some idiot on road ot otherwise cause them /me grief... I have family & friends (all treat/love them as their own)rotate shifts to keep the heard (4all mixed breed muts all sizes), that said i like the look & options the trailer below offers, but the safety of home is hard to beat.

This is Echo, a 25kg Boarder Collie..she loves comming with me on the Spyder .. she wears a webbing harnes attached to the carrier to keep her safe .. she can lie down or sit as in the photo ..... She has ridden this way for over 5000kms on both my old GS and now on my STS...... The carrier she's on is secured by running a webbing ratchet strap (normally used for securing loads on trailers ect) under the pasengers seat.... there are two layers of carpet off-cuts between the pasengers seat and the carrier to protect the seat .....

Personly I'm not in faver of dogs in trailers as they would breathing a lot of exhaust fumes..........

    Default dog love to ride

I take my 70 lb GSP with me on a Mini Trailer biker wagon cargo trailer with a large dog crate bolted to it. If i'm going camping I take my Time out camper with his crate mounted to the tongue.

Ccol, what is the carrier your using, and/or can you take some closer pics? I have a Shiba and she loves to ride but I have yet to find a good platform to allow her to be tied into the back seat.... At least at a reasonable price!!
