Default Pulling a trailer / camper

Hope this is the right place to post this question. I have a 2014 RSS and was wondering if anyone out there with a RSS pulls a trailer. I love camping and haven't for the last 2 years because of abused knees. So I was thinking about pulling a camper with this Spyder. Now I have never pulled anything with a bike before so this will be new for me. Any advice will be appreciated. One question up front is it recommended to have electric brakes or doesn't it matter much.
Hard to sit around a campfire when your in a motel.
    Thanks

    Default RSS & TOWING

Did it with both my 08 GS and 2011 RSS with no problems......also you will not need any brakes on the trailer. The maximum you can tow is 400lbs. total. That's the trailer and everything in it.......Mike

Type in advanced search; RS-S Camping. That is my 14 RS-S with my Bunkhouse little B. Good luck...
If I can't fix it, I will fix it so no one can fix it. Sypder Loco!

Micro-Lite Twist TR 7. The 1330 pulls it just fine.

That's a fine looking rig; but it's dry weight doesn't give you much carry wiggle room.

Well glad to hear I wouldn't need to do that.

True that, but I'm a strong believer in that BRP built in a little wiggle room themselves for the rule benders out there. Time will tell, I only have about fifty towing miles so far but, it really does handle great.

Before buying, I spoke with a gentleman that towed a Little Guy trailer which was about two hundred pounds heavier than mine, with the 990. Coast to coast with zero problems.

Pulled a trailer LOADED, camping gear, cooler etc , from Edmonton, through the Oregon coast, back through washington, NO ISSUES, other than the freaking rain. Since sold the trailer and am going TRUCK, DOG, TRAILER, SPYDER, that is it. For a short trip, find a friend for the dog and hotel the rest. MY STORY.

if you want more information on camping you might want to go over to Brotherhood of Motorcycle Campers.Good group of people.(ibmc.org) I use a tent myself now. I had a camper in the past and really liked it but in a moment of weakness I sold it. I traveled to Sturgis last summer and camped, but carried all the gear on the bike. I have bought a small trailer now to carry the camping gear. Just watch the weight and don't fall into the trap of carrying too much stuff just because you now have a trailer.

I had a similar question actually thought about investing in a trailer and hitch for the spyder for spyderfest but decided against it for now at least. Might wait til we move up to the rt if we ever do

Glad to hear so many of you do pull a trailer/camper. On the hunt for a used one. No hurry, still reading and searching.
Thanks for all the advice and really great pictures.

Default How it was explained to me

It was explained to me this way. Right or wrong, not sure but anyway......
When it comes to pulling trailers the load limits and recommended tongue weights are not as much a factor for pulling but more for panic stops. What happens during a panic stop is that the inertia of the trailer and all of its contents wants to push forward and down on the tongue, which in turns pushes forward and up on the front wheels in a sense lessening there contact with the road and possibly the ability to steer.

Again, not certain of this but i did stay at a holiday inn express one time........

That is correct for car & trucks (fixed frame) ATV 4 wheeler & side by sides vehicles pulling a trailer, a motorcycle with hitch hooked to rear swing arm is different (not fixed frame)
