Enclosed Trailer?
Hey guys/I have a question.
I have a Jeep Wrangler (2dr.)-I am looking at purchasing a 7x12 enclosed trailer with tandem axlesand brakes to haul and store my Spyder in when not riding.
Do you feel that the Short Jeep would be able to handle that trailer and RT Spyder? Or should I look at purchasing a pick-up to pull with?
I will have to have electric brake control added to the Jeep if I use it.
Opinions/suggestions appreciated.

Not a good match. The wrangler only has a class 2 (3000#) hitch and no provisions for a brake system. You will need a vehicle with a class 3 hitch equipped with a electric brake unit for the trailer and mirrors to accommodate the 7 Ft wide trailer. Don't forget that the frontal area of the trailer is about 56sq Ft. This will take some horsepower to tow comfortably.
Good luck and tow safely

Hard to say not a jeep man myself but plenty of them out there to ask. The class 3 hitch would be better by far. There are other spyder size trailers may do you better than enclosed tandem......¿ your call

Thanks
I appreciate the thoughts/opinions.
I was thinking of going with the 7' width because I have seen where some have had experiences with the ramp assist cables rubbing the Spyder when loading/unloading in a 6' wide trailer.

I use a 7X12 enclosed single axle aluminum trailer. Pull it with a RAM 1500 CC 6'4" bed. Great trailer. I can walk around my Spyder while it is in the trailer. I have it stored in the trailer all winter, plugged into a battery tender. I had the dealer install an outlet inside with a 20 amp breaker. Male outlet outside trailer. Tom

Hi Tom,
Would you mind telling us how much your trailer weighs?
(I'm interested in seeing how far off my 2800 pound guess is for the totals...)
Thanks!

I would recommend checking the tow rating of the vehicle:
Prior to 2016, all 2 door Jeep Wranglers were rated only to 2000 lbs. Jeep.com says 2016 is 3500 lbs but that might be a typo.
All Wrangler Unlimited, 2 dr and 4 dr, are rated at 3500 lbs.
Not all trailers are equal (weight) but the 7x14 I looked at online weighs 1960 lbs empty.
Spyder is around 1000 lbs or so?
There is another thread about enclosed trailers and someone said a specific 6x12 single axle worked. Although a tight fit, would help with the weight limit issue.
Tow rating has little to do with engine power. Example, Ford F250, 350, 450, 550 all use the same engine and trans.
It is mostly based on wheelbase, vehicle weight, and suspension capacity.
A Jeep owner since 1997 and currently on my 4th one.

About 1300lbs. for the trailer. Another 1050 for the Spyder. Total 2350lbs., plus whatever you load it with. Tom

trailer
a closed trailer is nice if you want a garage, when not in use, but very hard to pull and mpg drops big time. a light Aluma model 7210 trailer only weights in a 420 lbs nice fold up ramp on back so cars behind you see trailer even when empty and makes for easy loading.
