Probably too stiff of a ride for a 100 lb lady who always rides solo.

just got a call from rusty palmers and my f3s is ready to pick up. they did the warrantee bulletin and installed the new shock. anxious to try it, but it isn't exactly riding weather in nj! the 2015 owners manual states the f3 is rated for 438 pounds with the standard shock it comes with, but after 8500 miles of riding two up last summer, the misses and I were bottoming out way more at the end of the summer than we were at the beginning. it has been said that the 2015's were meant for solo riding and occasional two up. we were never told that before purchase, and it seems weird that the manual says its rated for 438 pounds which is way heavy for solo, and even exceeds our total weight by 10%. now the new shock says 350 pounds and for occasional two up, I have been told. how about it, does someone have the real answer?

    Default F3 Shock

How about a class action lawsuit? We were never informed that the bike is only capable of carrying one person. It came with handrails, a backseat and passenger footpegs... duh!

I don't see any need for a lawsuit. i'd rather see it handled the right way and make that shock what we should have. maybe the answer is an air shock (adjustable) so solo riders can get their comfort zone tuned in while us two up guys can feel like we have enough suspension for two! I haven't tried the new shock,(but like I said, it's been installed) but it's gonna get 10 or 15k this summer of two up, so we'll see!!

Oh . . it's a suspension thing. From the title on the list, I was envisioning some James Bondy thing to keep unwanted passengers from jumping onto your Spyder!

If the new shock is stiffer, how will it affect the mounting bracket that is being repaired now. If it could break with the original, will the fix protect the frame from the stiffer one?

Ordered mine today. Said I should have it about one week.

Thanks for the part #. Do not think my dealer would have figured it out. They said they never knew there was an
    issue.

My Dealer said to save my money, just another cheap shock with a bigger spring, recommended Elka fully adjustable. Just sayin.

Good post to stimulate rider discussion on the board. There are a number of ways to address the weakness of the OEM design; weak springs front and rear especially when riding 2 up.

My experience has been that the damping function of the shock is good enough; its the weak springs you have to fix. So now we have an option to swap out oem shock with one with a better spring for $213.49 + tax. Or... just swap out the springs with a Eibach, Hypercoil, or custom spring. Springs are in the ~$85 each range. Depending on your total weight range for the RT bike, I think you can get by with 450 lbs/in for the front and 850 lbs/in. I used 550 lbs/in up front (a bit stiff for solo work, but not objectionable) and 800 lbs/in for the rear. With the springs I used and they were very nice with 2 up riding.

With the frame reinforcement completed, I ordered the beefier rear shock yesterday. Will install it myself...should be a two-beer job.
