    Default Trunk lid fix

    Here's a two-minute fix that lets you open your Spyder's trunk one-handed. The spring slides tightly over the two nuts and stays put. Still allows one-handed lid drop-closure. Easy removal if you change your mind. Should have come from the factory like this.

    Okay, so I'm not so smart. Apparently someone else already came up with this idea and posted it.

    At least it proves BRP should have designed it this way in the first place!

    I still think this is the easiest and best looking fix! Cut, bend and drop in place. No assembly required!

    LOL, yep. You're still smart but you're a bit too late. I originally read about this type of mod around December 2007. Still nice to see different variations on it. Works great, don't it?

    2FASTON3: The spring came from a bin of spare hardware I've been collecting for over 30 years of working on cars and bikes. No idea what it was originally for. Its nothing special. Places like Home Depot, ACE Hardware and Lowe's have assortments of springs, you should be able to find something.

    I have a thread on the general topic board that tells how to do this...it's a number 155 spring that can be found at any real hardware store (not Home Depot)...

    I'm glad you told me what spring number it is. I went to Home Depot and picked up a bag of assorted compression springs but they were not strong enough to make the lid pop. Oh, it worked but not the way it should. I will try and find this size spring you suggested. Thanks.

    No problem...this is a really cheap fix and it works really well! I've had mine on for some time and it still 'pops' open nicely every time...the spring tension is the key and the 155 is perfect for our needs...

    Well after getting that spring number, I found it at Sears Hardware. It was perfect. Thanks again.

    Should not have a problem again! This is something that BRP should put on all bikes...only makes sense as what they do doesn't work!

    Thanks for mentioning ACE hardware. Went there today and picked one up. I have to wait to put it on. My mechanic has the Spyder to install the (modified) Home Run package. I got the modified version because I have a BRP sport rack. I could have installed it myself; but, I'm doing my fair share to keep the economy going; plus sometimes I get a little lazy.

    Well this is one tough install. Put a dab of silicone on, pop on the spring, close the trunk and voila! come out in the morning and turn the key and your trunk pops open. Even I handled this one.

    I installed a Hillman#155 spring today and it works better than I would of ever guessed! Once again the SpyderLovers forum is worth it's weight in gold. Thanks for the mod!

    I have a 2011 Spyder RS-S and it came with the spring.

    Lowes sells a 3 pack of Hillmans including the 155 $3.69. I would like to hope to get one to work on the seat too.

    Just picked up a #155 coil spring at my local "old time" hardware store. Cost $0.94. I love shopping there and try to as often as possible. Hate going to the home mega mart.
