Default another gun control problem we might be facing

that guy that runs the country is talking to the attorney general today to try and make gun sales between friends or private people subject to a background check. once again i really can't complain about this because new york city already has this on the books. if i wanted to sell my gun to someone i know or don't know it used to be all i needed was the persons permit number and i would send this to the PD and they would approve it. now i have to go through a gun dealer with a FFL license and i guess he does all the background checks and charges us for it.

so what do you think about this

Default It certainly doesn't prevent you from owning a gun, unless. . . .

You're not supposed to have one. The gun show loophole has been a problem for a long time. Personally, I'd like to see it closed. I'm not opposed to people having guns, but I certainly would like to see those with certain mental disorders to be restricted from getting them.
So far, my second childhood is better than my first.

    "The Gun Show Loophole"...
Can you explain to me what this is?

Go to a show, and try to purchase a firearm: They'll run a check on you!
I'm not too happy about what is being proposed...Private sales of firearms is going to be funneled through licensed dealers...
While it sounds laudable; it means that you won't be able to give your guns to your family and friends, without somebody "looking over your shoulder"...
That means that EVERY firearms transfer will have a 4473 attached to it, and the Federal Government will know who owns exactly which guns...
It's the precursor to a National Firearms Registration...

More death by a thousand cuts. I could go on a serious rant but the political stuff is supposed to be prohibited on this forum.

This term makes the vein in my forehead pop out every time I hear it. This isn't just about "gun shows". It's a political term referring to the sales or transfer of firearms by private sellers, including those done at gun shows.

The implications are greater than just "gun shows" and the vast majority of proposed legislation is written in a way that would make it a felony to go out to a gun range and loan (even under your supervision) a firearm to a friend or relative just so they could try out a firearm registered to you.

What these "folks" want to happen is for me to take my friend to a FFL dealer, pay $25 (or more) so they can submit to a background check and in essence transfer my weapon to them so they can go shooting. THEN.... We have to go back to the FFL dealer, pay another background check fee so I can have my weapon transferred back to me. Failure to do so would make both of us criminals.

    Thumbs up Slippery Slope

I wish more people ( lots more ) understood what the slippery slope of gun control is. It's no joke .
First this and a few more "little" Presidential edicts, then universal registraton, then universal confiscation. It's a simple slippery slope.
Good Lo*d----- we have over 2,000 gun laws already

So BFD. This wont change anything as far as illegal sales and the people who shouldn't have them getting a gun. As with most gun laws it will only affect honest people or make them into dishonest people.

The government knows they can never keep criminals from getting guns. So they are targeting the only people they CAN keep guns from. Law abiding citizens.

You notice they are not saying anything about how these new restrictions would have prevented any of the recent (or past) gun violence episodes. Or how any of these new restrictions will make us safer. And for good reason. They won't.

These new gun laws have no more to do with making us safer than O'Husseincare has anything to do with making us healthier. It's all about control. When we lose the 2nd amendment we lose all hope of retaining any of the others. There-in lies the end game.

Hitler 2.0, I'm from the government and I'm here to help...............

Those that ignore history are bound to repeat it. I have nothing more to add to this conversation but to say look at what the government has managed to control in the last 50 years and ask yourself is the US better now. Vote for me and I will give you free Ice Cream............. Nothing is free when someone else is paying for it.

    How about 2 new laws:
1---If you are involved in a crime and a gun is brandished, automatic life in prison.

2---If you are involved in a crime and a gun is fired, automatic death.

Oh yes, and how about we enforce the laws we already have.

I'm getting tired of hear about a "loophole"!! It's only a loophole in that the government doesn't get to snoop on absolutely every transaction between people buying/selling a lawful product.

this step is just one step of many that "the anointed one" has up his sleeve.. its all about control... as soon as he is successful getting this thru.. he will immediately start his quest to ban guns all together !!!!

WHEN PEOPLE HAVE GUNS THEY ARE CITIZENS... WHEN PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE GUNS ... THEY ARE SLAVES !!!! any questions ?

There is no such thing as a gunshow "loophole". In order for there to be a "loophole" there must be a law. Currently there is no law requiring background checks for sales or trades between private individuals. Our fearless leader is setting a dangerous precedent for future Presidents to start making their own laws.

loose definition of "criminal"........ individual who has no regard for laws.

I would like Mr. Barak ***** to explain to me in middle class terms that an uneducated, non-elitist person like me can understand,"how the f*** an executive order is going to keep guns out of the hands of crimminals?"

I have a small collection that I have intended to pass on to my grandsons. This jackass, his majesty king barack, in the whitehouse is going to make a criminal out of me for doing so. here's how I see it... SO BE IT.

There is no-one in DC that has the cajones to stand up to him. Oh, wait. Now I get it! Every fekkin one of them wants the same thing. CONTROL

without a revolution and a total clean out of DC, nothings is going to change. If you were to stand all of the politicians and lobbyists in a circle, including the potus and his lovely wife, yo would not be able to penetrate the circle. why? each and every one of them has his hands in the hip pockets of the one beside him. Money = Power = CONTROL!

for those who want to rant about their 2nd amendment rights, what do you say should be done to stop ILLEGAL gun sales
to prevent wack jobs from buying a gun?

P.S. i am not against people owning a gun but sort of like stopping people from driving a 3 second car on the road or doing
155mph on the highway i do see a problem.

    That's a fair question.
And the answer, is that we already have over 22,000 laws on the books, regarding the ownership, transfer, and usage of firearms. If the Courts would simply apply those laws to the criminals:
