Boy that reminds me of all the excitement of the late 50's and 60's in our original space program. What an absolutely magnificent event. Great achievement. They used to get excited if they could hit the ocean within 50 miles of the recovery ship.

BTW if you remember the early days of NASA they were all in white shirts and dark ties. These people from Space X(?) were in jeans tee's and shirts. How times have changed.

    Thumbs up Very Cool!!

    Space X is very cool.

NASA threw away 130+ huge aluminum fuel tanks on the space shuttle. ( They are at the botton of the Pacific Ocean) Space X won't do that. Some smart person could have done something amazing with all those tons of inch thick aluminum cylinders. I personally would have made a big ringed space station.

Isn't it cool what free-enterprise can do?

I agree with Pegasus about watching the rocket launches and astronaut recoveries back during the Mercury and Gemini days. That was back when we thought there was a glowing future if we could just outshine those commies!

Loved Flash Gordon. Who remembers Buster Crabbe's other big TV role from the 50's? Captain Gallant of the Foreign Legion?

One of the old fifties sci fi shows had a rocket that landed vertically like the Spacex rocket. I just don't remember which one. Maybe someone can chime in. It was pretty primitive early tv special effects. Captain Video, maybe?

Remember, the lunar lander did much the same thing, and then the upper part took off again.

They deserve a lot of credit, but never forget the original people that paved the way to this by accomplishing a lot of the firsts and hardest.

Don't underestimate the free part, as in what industry pays for all the knowledge developed at taxpayer expense. Space-X deserves credit, but they are building on a 50+ year legacy of Government supported research and development.

They were the second to do that. Good for NASA!
