Rotating front tires
Has anyone taken their Spyder to a tire shop and had them rotate the front tires? I could take the wheels off and take them into a shop to have the tires switched from rim to rim, but it would easier to just pull in and let them take them off and mount them. I'm just wondering if any tire shops would be able to do that.
The manual says to rotate them when the tread depth gets to 4mm, and mine are at 6mm right now. Just planning ahead.
Thanks

yup, i've had dat dun b4......
however, when u buy nu tires, DO NOT buy UNI-DIRECTIONAL tires.... dat way us can just take da left tire n put it on da right, n take da right tire n put it on da left.... I'VE DUN DAT on my RS with NO ILL EFFECTS....
and i'll do it again once my F3-S needs nu tires up frt.....

I only have 1 tire shop that will remove & install on the spyder. Most places like BigO only touch the tires only do to liability or jack won't fit

If the Spyder has the original Kenda tyres on it you can NOT rotate them – the Kendas have directional tread. Most owners replace their rear tyres about 4 or 5 times before they need to replace the fronts, unless poor wheel alignment has reared its ugly head and caused uneven wear.

Please re-read my question. I am well aware that they are directional tires, thus the need to take them to a tire shop to be switched.

I'm not sure it would be worth it, I have read of some that have done it and the tires were damaged. If they are wearing even, I would leave them alone.

OK, point taken, but there are many owners who believe that simply rotating the wheels will do the job – it won't. But why worry about rotating when the wear is already well advanced? The fronts wear so s-l-o-w-l-y that you have lots more life left in them.

I've got a little over 10,000 miles on them now. It can't hurt to rotate them and possibly get another 10,000

I have 21k on the fronts of our RT. They still probably have 5k before they will be on the wear bars. At that point I plan on installing cage tires...

Good to hear you've good mileage out of them. I also plan to go to cage tires when these OEM tires expire..... front and rear.

Lotsa miles
I got 26k miles on my front tires before changing and the only reason I changed then was because we were going to do twistys in Tenn. and N.Carolina and I wanted extra good tread . I put the original brand back and am very happy .I see too many riders try to squeeze the last mile out of a tire and to me it just ain't worth it .

I Took them off the Spyder hauled them down to Firestone they swapped them from rim to rim rebalanced. Well worth the $35.00

If your tires have any uneven wear to them you are wasting your money rotating them.

I thought one of the reasons for rotating tires was to even out uneven wear.

You need to fix the problem that causes the uneven wear and that is usually caused by the Spyder being out of alignment.

True That!
You'll actually be fixing more than 1 thing.
1- You're front tires will last longer (maybe MUCH longer)
2- Your Spyder will steer easier
3- Your Spyder will handle better
4- You and your Spyder will be happier
Happier is good!

Good traction in the rain is worth much more than being able to swap sides without dismounting the tires.
And, if you have good alignment. Front tire wear is typically pretty even, eliminating the need to rotate.
Absolutely correct.

Rotating
What you want done is exactly what I do. I rotate mine every other oil change and it's worked wonders for tire longevity. I remove mine and take them to my regular tire shop. In my experience, most commonly used floor jacks are too tall for Spyder use so that's why I remove and haul in. If they aren't too busy, they will do this without charge. I hope this better answers your original query, now stand by for posts about jacks that fit under an RT that automotive tire shops surely have.

Front tires in general last a looong time and considering the age factor along with UV deterioration, I simply question the cost/benefit result. What with time, transportation, service costs, etc.

Flipping....
In my time here I have seen more issues from rotating the tires than benefits. I had uneven wear got an alignment.(Squared Away) and got over 30,000 miles out of them. (Kendas) I have not seen or heard that doing it has evened out the wear on the tires...
