As techy as these machines are...the only oil related sensor it has is oil pressure. The oil filter will not affect this. it just filters better or quicker or both. I would wonder a bit about this person at you dealership...

1. Which code is set.
2. Does the filter cause too much pressure or not enough?
If he says, "Too much", then Bull Feathers. There is no high pressure monitoring device.
If he says, "Not enough", then Bull Feathers. Tell him to replace the oil pump or the entire engine under warranty.
I own an auto repair shop and can't stand it when someone tells a customer that kind of garbage.

Just when you thought you've heard all the dealer service BS.....
I had my first service on my first ever Spyder. Previous 19 years of rides were H-Ds and GL1800 trikes. I called the dealer and asked if I could bring my own oil to the party. They said as long as it was full synthetic and no more than 10W-40, they had no problem with it. I brought 5 quarts with me. They told me I was a quart shy, and they wanted to "top me off"with the XPS blend. I showed them Steve M's latest BRP Cares post from here on this subject. The service manager thanked me for bringing the new oil fill protocol to their attention. The tech made it a point to show me that the hot oil leval was at the bottom ball of the dipstick. Amazed me that they missed the memo from BRP regarding the proper amount to put in a 1330 motor.
Hi,
I've talked to the people at HiFlo. They are waiting on Rotac & CanAm's testing for the 1330 oil & air filters. The one "others" are selling/using are for Other BRP 1330cc products. The difference is, presently the CanAm filter has a wire mesh around the exterior of the filter paper to keep the filter paper from coming apart. The present HiFlo being sold does not. BRP has had problems in the past with oil filters coming apart and added the mesh. The 1330 has an extended oil change of 9300 miles, more than twice what the 990's have. For the piece of mind in knowing, for a few extra bucks, I'll use the 'dealer issued' oil filter and NOT run the risk of voiding the Warrentee if the engine comes apart. I'm sure HiFlo will 'certify' a filter soon.

HiFlo and K&N (HiFlo makes the K&N oil filters) have been in this certification process for about a year now. Not sure why it is taking so long but a person might speculate that it isn't in BRP's best interest to certify aftermarket filters. Who knows.
Yes, BRP did have problems with oil filters coming apart. But this occurred only with BRP filters. That is what drove the filter revamp in late 2012. As far as I know there have been zero issues with aftermarket filters, ever. With everything that gets reported here it is hard to believe an aftermarket filter could fail and we would not know about it.
I have customers who change their filters every other oil change (not recommended), running well over 10,000 miles on the HiFlo filters (998 Rotax). Zero issues. I have a great number of 1330 owners running these filters with zero issues. A few have told me they've gone well over the 10,000 mile service interval due to various reasons (not intentionally). Some customers inspect their used filters and report to me that they look great.
I am not saying anyone should purchase a product they are not confident in. Just trying to lay the facts out so that people can make an informed decision.
Changing your oil without also changing the filter is like taking a shower and putting your dirty cloths back on! Yuck!
I won't risk voiding my Warrentee over saving a few bucks on a filter.
