Callling it Quits
Age, arthritis in hands and knees, and general health decline (Age 71+) have made me throw in the towel. Knee and hip replacement in near future. Got my left thumb surgically repaired 18 months ago and now the right one is going south. I'm taking my 2012 RT A&C to my dealer today to be sold on consignment. Craig's List here has about 100 Spyders for sale. No such thing as a classified ad anymore. I just don't want the hassel. Dealer takes 15% which I know is high but doable. This forum has been a lot of fun to follow. I never really had any issues with my Spyder but just can't handle it anymore.

Sorry to see you go. Had knee replaced and waiting for other knee and hip to be replaced. I am an optimist. Just bought a new R1200R BMW and am riding some two wheel again. Hope your sale goes well. I'm 75.

Sorry
Sorry too that you are throwing in the towel, but understand. I had both knees replaced in the past year and thought I was finished motorcycling, but found the Spyder which has given me a new start. I'm 78, and want to keep that wind in my face as long as possible. Do drop in on the forum and let us know how you are doing.

Since I'm only a year behind you in age, I know this is not a very happy day for you. But I wish for you much success in getting all those troublesome joints fixed, and a new interest to replace that Spyder that will give you many happy days to come.

I sold my '09 GL1800 Hannigan Trike on CycleTrader in 5 days. Spent 50 bucks for the premium ad which allows you to post some pics.
I know all about arthritis in the hands. Had surgery on my left thumb in May of '14. That's why i sold my '09 and went to a '15 RT Limited. Having issues now with the knuckle under my middle finger on my right hand. Sorry your orthopedic issues are forcing you to "call it quits". Hope your joint replacements are successful.

Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately it happens to all of us. i wish i had the money to upgrade to an RT id take it off your hands. Other members are right though its relatively small hassle to list here and on cycle trader and give that 15% in savings to some younger poorer spyder ryder, like me lol, instead of a stealer. Once a member of spyderlovers always a member so check in.

I am so sorry you are forced to stop an activity you love. I keep hoping each year for one more year for me, and with the Spyder, one more year looks possible.
Hope you have a successful sale.

I think a fair amount of us here switched to the Spyder for health issues vs. 2 wheels. This is the next step for many of us....retirement from recreational vehicles. Sorry for your conditions, take care of yourself and find some other joys to share in your life !
And yes....stick around here....you can always share your experience !

I think it is great that you have made this decision. My mother made a similar decision not to drive anymore at around the same age. She knew her mental and physical abilities were at the point that she was not only putting herself in danger but everyone else on the road as well. I you

Hi redflasher,
Re: Callling it Quits
The reality is that we are all in-line, just behind you; it is only a matter of time.
I'm 75 & my goal is to be riding my Spyder until I'm at 80; only time & health will determine that.
Best of luck wherever the road takes you,

Sorry to hear about your trials and tribualations. My wife is 62 has had both knees, both hips and 5 lower back vertebrae fused. The back took a year and half to get over and still has to go in for epidurals every 3 months, now she has started up with a pinch nerve in her neck. I understand what you are going through. My brave wife is currently trying to work out a deal with Imotorsports for a 2015 RT special Edition Red trading her 2010 RT A/C in. We are planning a trip next summer to visit our son at Moody AFB, Georgia riding our Spyders.

Sorry to hear about your ailments and wish you the best in getting them rectified. I am here to share from personal experience that there are some damn fine knee and hip orthopaedists out there. I have had both hips replaced, nine and seven years ago, respectively. Both my legs are the same length, I have no pain and greater mobility than before both surgeries, have bicycled thousands of miles on the artificial joints and I'm going to ride my Spyder as long as the Big Fellow will allow. The glass is half full! Good luck!
