Default Does it ride like a quad?

I was pumping gas today, and a man came up to me and asked "Does it ride like a quad?". I have never ridden a quad, so I didn't know what to say. After a few seconds of stammering, I told him it rides like a trike. He just walked away with a disappointed look.

For those who HAVE ridden quads, what is the answer to that question? I'm sure someone else will ask me again at some point.

P.S. One thing for sure, when you ride a Spyder, you'd better get used to talking to strangers in gas stations and parking lots

, I don't think it rides like a quad at all, complete different rear end feeling for me.

    Default Sorta...!!

pretty much only the fact that you steer with the bars and you have two wheels up front. But to those that haven't ryden one it would be... but it is it's roots..quads, watercrafts and snowmobles. Steer with the bars hanh on with your knees...

I agree, you feel like you are on a quad and you ride it similar to the way you ride a quad.

It does; right up until you try to put the power to the ground...
Quads hook up much better under power.

But to the uninitiated: "yes", is close enough!

I've never been on a quad.

When people come up and ask me how does it ride, I tell them it's like riding a bull. Just lean into the well and you'll be ok.

Oh and for some reason riding a Spyder changes some folks keyboards. Their i key somehow turns to a y when they type.

For me it is similar to a quad and our BRP Sea Doo. Steer with the front and everything else revolves around that point.
Not that I am even up to the "good novice" level yet. I tell most people(a lot!) that I prefer two wheels that turn in the corners
to dragging the weight of two rear tires around the corners. Never been on a GW trike or an HD trike but I can only envision
the "Big Wheels" from the kids days...though braking was a blast on those.

That's true, but I'm not sure that it's a good answer. Most people who don't ride quads think of them as a harsh and bumpy ride. I actually like Pams answer better. . I tell people, "Spyders ride like a conventional motorcycle trike, but they are much more stable with the two wheels in the front."

Now if it's a biker that asks, I tell them, " It's a lot of fun. It feels like you're riding a snowmobile on the road."

Yeah but it's accurate enough for just a general explanation.

And quads are only harsh and bumpy because you're riding them off road on rough surfaces, ride a quad down the road and it's perfectly smooth.

Riding a Quad on the road is like riding a Spyder with badly cupped tires.

I'm not surprised he was disappointed. A "trike" rides like a lumber-wagon compared to a Spyder, handling-wise. So, as many respondents have stated, describing it as like a quad is much more accurate than like a trike.

Then too, there is the much-enhanced safety advantage of the "reverse-trike" design, vs a "trike."

My wife says she is so comfortable on the back she is afraid of going to sleep and slipping off. You must have something wrong. Only time she was uncomfortable is when the air bag was really low. ( I have a base RT, no electric pump)

i had had never ridden a quad before starting to research buying a Spyder. I was reading the Do's and Don't's thread about the handling of the Spyder. I had the opportunity to get on a friends quad and used the same principles of riding a Spyder to the quad, so I would say yes, a quad drives like a Spyder.
