Default Just ordered a new rear "car tire"

Well someone had to do it and I liked this tire the best out of all of them and price wasn't a factor but it came in at $79 shipped to me. I'll let you guys know how it works out.

The Ecsta AST is the High Performance All-Season member of Kumho's Ecsta family of performance tires for the drivers of modified coupes, sedans and sports cars. The Ecsta AST is designed to offer the exotic looks, traction and value tuners want in a tire while providing year-round traction on dry and wet roads, as well as through occasional light snow.
The Ecsta AST molds Kumho's advanced carbon, all-season tread compound into a directional tread design with shoulders designed to increase cornering grip while the center provides linear responsiveness and high-speed stability. Dual-angle cross grooves help pump water and slush through the tire's footprint to increase hydroplaning resistance while multiple sipes in each tread block increase the number of biting edges to enhance light snow traction. The tire's structure includes twin steel belts reinforced by spirally wrapped nylon, along with a polyester cord ply carcass reinforced by a hard sidewall filler to help resist distortion at high speeds and while cornering.

What kind of mileage did you folks get out of the original rear tire?

I like the idea of running car tires with better all season traction. My subdivision does a horrible job of clearing snow. When all the other roads are clear, my neighborhood still had a light covering. Once I make it out to the main roads I'm usually good. I could have used the traction on Saturday.

Not sure about there car tires but I know toyo truck tires tend to be hard and the traction isn't as good as other tires but not sure about there other tires

Lamont and Steven... Be sure to post first ride impressions. Don't wait for 10,000 miles... even though Lamont could do that in a month or so.

    Default Rear tire

Lamont - are you going to mount it your self? If so what type of equipment are you using to break down the bead?

Hmmm, did some research and not a whole lot of choices out there for the 225/50/15. I was hoping Perelli made something but if they do I didn't find it. I did find these interesting alternatives.

That Kuhmo is a good tire. That's what I ran on my Grand Am GT. It was a 235/40/18 size, but same tire. Did real well in the rain.

That's good to know. I was shocked how cheap it was price wise.

I may just take it to the shop but this is a post I made on how I busted the beads on my trailer tires.

    -----------------------------------------------------

This is a little OT but it would work just as well on a bike tire as it did on my trailer tires.

I went to use my trailer and I had four bad valve stems so I bought some of the steel stems from an auto parts store but I still had to break the bead to put the new ones on. That's when I got the idea to leave my trailer hooked up to the truck and use the trailer jack to bust the bead. It worked so slick I can't even believe it and it saved me a trip in my truck to the tire store to have them change them out.

Hope this helps you guys someday.

The Kuhmo's work great on the front but I don't have enough miles on them to know how well they are going to wear.

I ran the Falkens on my Yukon I loved them held up well no problems. When My rear tire goes on my Spyder, if Lamont says okay I will put them on.

    Lamont,
How much pressure are you going to run?

I ran 20 up front and 30 in the rear on the last set. I'll have to play with these a bit. If you run them too low they get hot.

Any news on how much pressure you are running in the new rear tire lamonster? While doing a little reading on the Kumho Ecsta AST, I see it has a max pressure of 50psi, much more than the stock Spyder tire I believe. dltang ordered two of these for our Spyders today as we are both needing rear tires. She has somehow gotten bad treadwear on her fronts also but we are having the Kendas reinstalled on there as they seem to be proven to last a good long time in most cases. Also, we learned that these AST's are discontinued and the local tire store said they are recommending the Ecsta 711 as the replacement.

The fun part is mounting them - little bit of starter fluid and a match will do it! Used to have plenty of fun mounting tractor tires that way!

    Hey Ron,
I found your Pirellii in the right size but it is pricey.
Pirelli PZERO SYSTEM The cheapest I could fine it is $203 per tire.

I ran 28lbs in the rear and the middle of the tire was bald before the outsides of the tire was half gone. I just now changed to 21lbs in the rear and it rides so much smoother it is truly amazing.

Lamonster - should I be concerned about the tire heating up and causing blowouts?
