    Default Lost Key/s

    Hello All,

I lost my key/s. Who, what, where, when do I need to do now? I did some research online and I found out that I can buy a key and have it programmed. My understanding of that is you need another key to do that. Is that true? I also called my local dealer and they told me I need to replace the security module, ignition module and buy key/s. Please help........

    google is your friend

google search "spyderlovers.com key" for lotsa info

my used RT only came with one key...I ordered 4 more blanks and will have them cut and programmed.

I did read an experienced locksmith and shop have what it takes to make a key directly from the ignition lock, but I can't verify that.

Relax... They can be found, if you just take your time, and take a methodic approach to the search.
What year and model bike do you have?
Worst case scenario: you'd probably have to get new switches and keys...
Good luck; please let us know where you find them!

    Pants pockets?
Any stops to visit with anyone along the way?
    What about your spare key?

First find that key!!!!!!!! When you find it have another spare key cut and the Spyder programed to accept it by your dealer or anyone with a Can Am Spyder master key.

If you are positive that it cannot be found. It can be fixed but is pricey. Since it is a 2012 you will need a new ignition switch and DESS module installed. That will be about $800.

There is no security module but the DESS module could be called that. It's not that expensive and not hard to change. The ignition switch is more expensive and more labour the swap out.

    Hi spy_der_man,

Re: Bike only came with the one key.

My used '08 came with both factory keys.

Last year, wanting another key, I got one from this guy:

    http://www.keys4urride.com/

    sales@keys4urride

And I just bought another one from him.

He is not the cheapest but was a great guy to work with.

I have a cloned 3rd key as well. But in this instance the OP has no keys so that is not an option at this time. You need on original to clone from.

Without one chipped you're only recourse is you dealer and large green. Then do a search for unchipped spare key and follow what a good number of us do.

    Default Chipped

I just checked on that site and the chipped keys only go up to 2013. 2014 upwards are service keys will not start bike.

    Default Look harder...

I know you have but without at least one good key your sunk. I have the same spyder and had kwick keys clone some extras. $35.00 each. But without the chip at best it will open things but will not run. Common key loss is putting the key in your jacket pocket and tosding it in the frunk could it be there..??

no, the only place I went was to get a pizza and return home. After I ate I took a bike ride, came back home and checked pockets and it was gone. I walked the entire route I rode last night, went to the pizza place this morning, called the pizza place around 11:15 A.M. and they said no. I checked the couches, garage, everywhere I could think of that I had been....

So with that said, I need to know specifically what I need to buy besides keys?????

Service key will open trunk and storage space. Won't be able to start bike with it.

Sadly. ..being so techy the ignition switch communicates with the computer and they all have to be paired up. Getting the keys is easy getting the chip to talk to the computer is the problem. Dealer will have to work this out. If you get the parts...cheapcycleparts.com then they could program the computer..you can save some this way...

Check with the dealer first, they may not want to use someone else's parts

I just read the procedure for a new DESS module. 2013 and earlier models. I was wrong in my previous post saying that you would need someone with the master key. You do not need the dealer at all. No need to connect to BUDS.

If you have the necessary mechanical skills All you need is to buy a new DESS module and the ignition switch, comes with 2 keys. Then install them. The new DESS will go into programing mode without the master key. The master key is only needed to add more keys later.

WELL ......................... I stand corrected, this is why you ask questions, apparently billybovine has done some research for you and knew what to look for .

On my '14 my Ilco X270 service key opens the trunk and frunk. Therein I keep my second chipped key. Service key is flat and fits easily in wallet that is always in a pocket on my body.
