    Default First service

Ok F3 riders, I tried to make a appointment at 600 miles for first service, as instructed when I purchased my F3. The service department said the the service specs changed from 600 miles to 1000 miles, anyone else receive this information??

    But 600 is incorrect.

    Default read the book

Our instruction manual for F3 says first service 5000 km (3000m). It's in your book ... read this rather than believe your dealer.

1330 engine, 3000 miles first service. May want to take a closer look at your dealer.

The manual says 3000, just checking to see if anyone was a told or had heard something different.

My dealer had me come in for a 500 mile courtesy check just to make sure all was well and no codes.

I just bought it in July and am scheduled for this service next Friday. They haven't said exactly what they will do but I was quoted around 300.00 to have it done.

    Default Only two...!!

998 cc first service is at 600 miles
1330 cc first service is at 3,000 miles

The manual also tells you what gets serviced and when. The first service I think you should have done by the dealer. After that you can follow the book and do your own if so inclined.

All manufacturers set the standards for maintenance that needs to be done on their bikes, and at what intervals. What BRP recommends for your F3 can be found in your owners manual. If it is like the 2014 RT (both are the 1330 engine) it will be as follows:

    BREAK-IN INSPECTION - 5 000 KM (3,000 MI)
Using BRP Utility and Diagnostic Software (B.U.D.S.), check fault codes and install
    required updates.
Replace engine oil and oil filter.
Check clutch fluid level (SM6 model only).
    Check brake fluid level.
    Check reverse mechanism operation.
    Check engine coolant level.
    Inspect throttle twist grip operation.
Check lighting system (brake light, hazard warning light, turn signal lights, position
lights, license plate light). Clean brake light switch.
    Check operation of control switches.
Inspect the drive belt condition and its tension. Adjust if required.
Check tightening torque of the front wheels lug nuts.
Check tightening torque of the rear wheel axle nut.
Check parking brake operation. Adjust as required.
Check wheels wear. Align front wheels if required.
Check tires pressure. Adjust as required.
Check brake pads and discs condition.
    Check passenger handholds looseness.
    Check footrests looseness.
    Check body panels looseness.
Check operation of storage compartment latches, hinges and key barrels.

If a dealer is trying to get you to guilt you into getting maintenance considerably earlier than BRP recommends then, IMHO, they are trying to rip you off. Perhaps you might want to check with another dealer about when the first service should be done, or even better, contact BRP customer service and explain what you are being told by your dealer.

Thanks Gray Ghost! I'm going to call a dealer in another city and see what they say.

Vehicles with the 1330 three cylinder engine 2014 + 2015 RT and the 2015 F3 have a first service at 3000 miles--not 600 miles. It amounts to an oil change/filter and checkover. Should cost no more than an oil change service. Average about $300.

Dealers that do not know the correct service intervals for the new 1330 are a kind of a red flag to me. They have been selling with the 1330 since 2014. Subsequent oil changes are 9300 miles later--(12,300 miles) or once a year whichever comes first. Valve check service is no longer required.

Stop and think about this for a moment. If BRP felt there was any need for any service before 3,000 miles they would have darn well put it in the manual. The ACE 1330 engine and 6-speed trans was tested extensively before production and they have a year of 2014 RT production to rely upon. If a dealer wants an owner to come in for a complimentary 600 mile check at no cost, that's good customer relations. Any dealer who says a required service is due before 3,000 miles is pegging the BS meter and is out for the contents of your wallet.
Artillery lends dignity to what would
    otherwise be a vulgar brawl.
