Got my first Spyder-hater

Well, maybe not hater, but definitely a "I don't trust that fandangle gizmo thingy" attitude.

So far, I get people who either admire it or are curious. But last night, this guy pulled up behind me (rather abruptly) in a parking lot. He looked like the Angry Orchard guy. The first thing he said was, "That thing looks awkward". I just replied, "Its a lot of fun". He then said, "I've been riding bikes for forty years, and that thing looks awkward". I then said, "I rode a sport bike for six years, it took about two weeks to get used to it". He still had the angry orchard guy look on his face. But somehow I did peak his interest. His face relaxed some and he said, "How fast it is?". I said, "Zero to sixty in five seconds". He then gave me a reluctant look of approval and just drove off. I know if he rode one, he would like it. And he knows it to. But he doesn't want to like it.

those types are fun. They try really hard to hate it and try to get you to admit they are right.. they get nowhere with us and end up leaving in a huff but as you say are still thinking about it till they meet up with their riding buddies who pull them back from the brink...for now..

"doesn't want to like it" is exactly what's going on. I think that's what's behind all the comments from 2-wheel riders who seem interested, but wouldn't ever call it a real motorcycle.

Me and a Harley dude were talking about our bikes and doing some kind-hearted jabbing about Spyder vs. Harley and the last thing he said was "Well it's no Harley" to which I responded "Thank God!"

If you want something, you should get that item, because that is what you wanted. Harley's are what they always have been and that is their market version. Thankfully that I know of, they never made any ambulances, aircraft, emergency vehicles or military equipment other than courier bikes. It's an anitiquated machine of novelty, far surpassed many years ago by the people they shared their machinery with. If you want that, then that's what you need to get.

Last Saturday I ran into the second person (in 7 years) that came up to my and said it looked like a snowmobile.

I told him yes, it has that heritage because it is made by the people who make Ski-Doos. Speed and performance came up. I showed him the 200 mph speedometer. He said thank you, and went merrily on his way.

There are some people that have their minds made up and nothing we say or do is going to change it. I bought mine for me. Don't care what "they" think.

I was riding by myself and met up with five other 2 wheeled riders a couple of weeks ago at a gas station. They were going to the same bike rally for the day as I was. Three of the five came up to me and ask all kinds of questions about Spydee. They invited me to ride with them to the rally. I accepted the offer and told them I would ride in back of the group as not to mess up their riding alignment. One of said, "since you know the way, why don't you lead." He ask me "how fast can it go?" I ask him back, "How fast do you want to go?"

To make a Spyder like an HD Can Am would need to make a few changes.

Make it vibrate so much it makes the rider's hands and butt numb
Put the pipe next to the riders leg so she gets burned
Make is slow
Make it air cooled so it fries the rider's butt and legs in heavy traffic. (So you can have a numb and fried butt at the same time)
Make it tip over

My love to hate ratio for the Spyder is at least 20 to 1.

This is no joke... my mom rides a Harley trike. A couple years ago I went on a long trip with her and my brother. When she showed up, she had her leg wrapped with a bath towel and duct tape. I asked her what the heck she was doing and she said she had to do that or her leg would get so hot she wouldn't be able to ride very long! NO JOKE!

This is no joke... my mom rides a Harley trike. A couple years ago I went on a long trip with her and my brother. When she showed up, she had her leg wrapped with a bath towel and duct tape. I asked her what the heck she was doing and she said she had to do that or her leg would get so hot she wouldn't be able to ride very long! NO JOKE!

She can get boots with a heat shield. There are a number of adventure style boots that have this.

I have these boots, and although it's not mentioned, it has a nice heat shield going all the way up to the top. I don't need a heat shield, I bough them because they are waterproof.

The only time I am approached by a hater, they are always in a vehicle and not their bike.

I just say "I'm riding and using mine, where is yours again?" I don't even wait for a response, and I put on my helmet and ride off.

I love it even more, when they're foolish enough to admit that they don't have one...
"I thought so!", is usually more than enough to get their lower lip to quivering!

Happened to me many times and when ask how fast I just told them I was close to peg the speeddo needle.

Here in Mexico I have a whole "macho" deal going on, being I am woman I must be a Lesbian for riding a bike. haha, cracks me up. Well Sunday (my ride day) I went to Tepozlan, which is a lovely little fun town. I saw some fellow riders there, they had Harley's and I stopped to buy some ice cream and said HI to them, one of them was nice the others ignored me and all I thought was their loss. I sat on the bench to eat my ice cream and another one said something to the effect "I would buy 4 Harleys before I bought one of those" and he pointed at my bike. I didn't say anything, no reason to get into a fight right, but I thought yeah dude, you can't afford 4 Harley's much less one of these....haha I had a big smile on my face....the Spyder was way out of his ball park obviously and he was envious...haha. I worked very hard for my bike, and the smile I have on my face is ENORMOUS!
