    Certain Chinese site will sell a keygen for USD 50 - seems to be lots of sellers. Looks like you have to also send your serial number from the MPI-2 interface though. Not sure it is good idea as this gives a thief easy access to stealing Spyders and, in fact, any BRP product. 10 minutes, a trailer and you get USD20k of Seadoos for 50 bucks.

    Too risky to turn off DESS? Invalidate your insurance?

    Spyders are stolen with a roll back wrecker and a winch. Gone in 60 seconds as you say. They are not ridden off. DESS does not help deter theft any more than the physical lock already does.

    Unlocking and removing DESS is done later and the bike sold or parted out.

    I hope you are right on the problem getting sorted. There are many hundreds out there waiting to fail at the wrong time. Me and my traveling companions will not be stuck with this as so many others have. Essentially ruining a long planned trip due to poor design. Like many others, its was more about peace of mind than actual malady. The incremental cost for the megatech licence was not that bad and I wanted to learn more about the systems anyway. I can help others if the opportunity presents.

    If you change out the DESS module, please report back you success.

    Well at 30k on my 2014 RTL we thought we might miss this party. No such luck we got stuck out where there was NO cellular service. Took about 1/2 hour of fooling and it started. Rode home and it started fine in my shop. Next morning, today I was heading for dealer and no go.
    Orange screen of death!! Well got it started and went to dealer in another town and they read the codes and said the antenna around key is bothered by all the new RF interference and new cell signals so not to have phones or ?? Near ignition which I don't.

    Anyway tech says there is a NEW module available and NEW antenna kit for ignition area.
    They have ordered them and said they are back ordered until mid July? Says it's a long job as frunk and dash have to come off?
    Guess I'll park her until fixed so I don't have to walk home.

    PS... What is this Cycling the ignition people do to get it to start. I'm pretty mechanical and think I know but want to be sure of steps.

    I have done the cycling thing (5 times on then off) on each of the eight failures my bike has experienced. It worked first time and every time except one. That time it took a bit longer but, it did work. My dealer is replacing the DESS module next week. I hope to have the issue resolved with the new parts.

    my situation is a little different. My dash doen't light up, the brake light and N light and oil light light up. when i hit start nothing happens, happened a few nights ago, went to dinner and when i got back to the bike same thing happened. waited like 15 minutes tried and it worked fine. right now i have the key in the ignition hoping the bike will read it?? Its a beautiful day, and i can't ride very frustrating

    Did you have your D.E.S.S. module replaced?

    The D.E.S.S. Module is under warranty, if you have any warranty left on your spyder.

    What is your spyder model?
    What year is your spyder?

    Im sorry i have a 2014 RT Limited. i bought new last year. My dashboard is blank not powered up. Im still under warranty. After leaving it alone for about an hour i put the key in and the dashboard lit up and I was able to start it. i wish i did get a DEES because then i would know what it is. i cam back from ride about 11/2 ago and put the key in to see if it would happen again and it did, The dashboard is blank

    Did you try both of the keys?

    Check with your dealership about your 'Blank Dashboard". After you waited for an 1 hour did you get the normal start-up screen?

    Did you check your fuses?

    Someone else might chime in to help you with the above problem.

    Itried both keys figuring the chip lost its mojo. neither worked I didn't check any fuses but will. after the hour it did start but i just cant figure you why?

I waited a few seconds since I could not see the screen and know for certain it was on the MPH screen, then I hit the starter and it fired up. I had to use the dial type speedo until the display cooled and returned to functioning.

    Not saying this is your problem, rather simply tossing it out there.

    I suggest the person bring a towels or similar and a means to keep it from blowing away, cover the display when parked or park in the shade. If the problem persists, bring it in for a warranty replacement of the display.
    My reference to you re-viewing it again had nothing to do with DESS ( nothing in post # 436 mentions DESS )......it was "He did try to start it even tho there was no screen" .......many folks here think my entire existence on Spyderlovers revolves around the DESS issue but it really doesn't........................     I tried to start it and again a blankscreen. I'm supposed to take it in tomorrow for frunk leak but I may have to have it towed there because I can't start it.

    What is it you are trying say here? I have already verified that a Megatech licence version of BUDS can indeed disable DESS on a 2014 and newer RT or F3 allowing a non-chipped key to start the bike. I purchased the licence upgrade for our shop.

    I can also now verify that this does NOT work on 2013 and older bikes but they do not seem to have the problems either.

    Brought the bike in, i was able to get it started by turning the key on and off about 30 times. once i got it running headed down to the dealer. when i got there i shut her down and went to get the tech. sure enough it wouldn't start for him. He saw the blank screen and said he things the entire unit is going bad. I asked about the DESS and he said it was not that because i would never get it started. When i hear more I'll keep everyone posted. Thank you for your opinions, I'm learning a lot about Can AM's.

    Brought the bike in, i was able to get it started by turning the key on and off about 30 times. once i got it running headed down to the dealer. when i got there i shut her down and went to get the tech. sure enough it wouldn't start for him. He saw the blank screen and said he things the entire unit is going bad. I asked about the DESS and he said it was not that because i would never get it started. When i hear more I'll keep everyone posted. Thank you for your opinions, I'm learning a lot about Can AM's.
