Please post the D.E.S.S module part # so new/and current spyder owners know what the part # is.

I have had the D.E.S.S. Module replaced twice( first DESS module on July 14, 2015, the second was replaced on Aug. 28th, the same time they reprogrammed the keys, and gave me a new trailer lock. I have not had the DESS error show up. If I do I will post on my thread.
    Good Luck!

    Hi Deanna,

I will as soon as It's fixed. It maybe already as they were working on it yesterday, but I will not pick it up until Saturday since it's a two hour drive.

This is a continuing problem that needs a general recall and fix. How many pages now. Being stranded is not safe for single riders. BRP has a fun product with the Spyder, it needs better reliability/TQM. I've said this before in another thread but here I go again. Consumer Reports states that 42 out of 100 units fail and is the worst in the MC industry. For riders not having problems that's great but for the roughly 42% that have failures (some have multiples) this is not acceptable. Ann (wife) has been stuck on the side of the road 3 times now.
This thread is up to 18 pages now............................ about being stranded is not safe for any single riders.

Had the DESS error show on my 2015 RTL with 3052klms on it, turned the key off then on again and everything was ok. I contacted my Dealer and was told to bring the bike to the shop the next morning, they hooked up the BUDS and the code did show. They then opened a case with BRP, next day I got a call and was told the module would be replaced. A few days later another call asking me to bring the bike back to the shop, today they replaced the module with a #710004916. Hope it solves the problem.

This morning I was reading a long term test on a new Nissan Maxima. Guess what they are having a problem with? They tried reprogramming the keys and it didn't work. It is causing problems with starting, unlocking the doors, etc. We apparently are not alone with this issue.

    Deanna,

My switch did not need to be replaced only the DESS module. Part number 710004916. It was covered under warranty.
Looks like I received a newer one than you did, so I hope it fixes it for good.

Well had three episodes of dess again this week. Going to have it at the dealers this morning when they open. They will have to replace the module this time as I will not settle for another key reprogram. Have the module number to give to the service writer.

Put both keys in their holders ( plastic) and walked away about 50 to 60 feet, and waited for about 1/2 hour ( in my mine I was thinking of calling Roadside Assistance, if the spyder did not start the 2nd time, I did not have to call Roadside Assistance,) because it started. Then I went on my way.

    Thank god!

So tomorrow I will call my dealer and tell them I got the D.E.S.S KEY CODE again. I had the D.E.S.S. Module replaced last month ( 7/17/15) and both keys reprogramed. I will post here when I can on what the dealer says. My spyder is a 2014RTS-SE6. I know this happens a lot.

I did start a " Thread last month on the above subject. I was wandering if anyone else has had this recurring problem?

Have your dealership reprogram both keys( my dealership reprogramed both of my keys, and they gave me a new trailer lock, and a new trunk lock. Oh, for crying out loud.

I wasn't aware that the replaced module had failed twice.
If it has then I suppose your opinion is valid.

Since, as you state, Deanna has had two failures on her replaced module then I agree.
If you have not had any failures and are being haunted by the fear of a DESS code then if I were you I would sell the thing and buy something I had confidence in.

Gosh I thought that PMK said you had two errors show up on the replaced module.
Silly me, I must have been mistaken.

I guess that will teach me not to gloss over threads.
Sorry for the inconvenience I caused PMK and Deanna.

PMK was obviously correct in warning that at any time, without warning an error code could be returned and Deanna should be fearful of that time.
    Apologies all around.
