Can I use any type DOT 4 brake fluid?
Receive the C0049 error on my way to work today and I only have 6k miles on the bike. So I'm guessing that the brake fluid may need to be added.
Before I order some XPS brake fluid for $15$; I wanted to know if I can use any DOT 4 brake fluid to top off? Or should I stick with the XPS DOT 4?

Good brake fluid isn't cheap.
I use this in almost everything I drive. https://www.google.com/search?q=motu...bf600&tbm=shop

Yes good fluid, especially for high heat applications. I seldom use it anymore.

What situation did it do that under?
I've used it for years now.
I've used it also in my off road Jeeps, a race Jeep and my track car and never any issues.

For a daily driver I'd pick up a small fresh bottle of everyday dot 4. You'll probably only find dot 3/4 which is fine too. It's dot 4 fluid that's also backwards compatible. Use what you can/need and toss the rest.
For a track car/bike I'd probably run the same unless I had some noticeable fade then I'd switch over to something like the RBF600 fluid. But I'd swap that fluid every season.

The RBF600 fluid is considerably more hygroscopic than "normal" dot 4. That's how it gets its higher boiling point. However, its also because of this that it goes to junk quicker too. It's good fluid for sure! Just not long lasting fluid. Kind of a waste if you don't need the higher BP IMHO.
Oh, and yes rbf600 and normal dot4 mix just fine.....

Ok, didn't know that.
I have changed brake fluid yearly in my vehicles for probably the last 8-10 years.
My track car before the weekend and at 3 day events mid weekend.

I'm kinda lazy with that. Usually every 2-3 years I buy a big bottle of dot4 and turkey baste out what I can in all the vehicles at once and top off with fresh. But I also run my spyder fluid at the half mark on the reservoir with the sensors pulled so I don't have to mess with fluid puking from the caps or the over protective warning message..... Remember to aim the caps topside bump and underside cut on the rubber aft...so it doesn't dribble down the resevoir, down the lines and eat the paint on the swing arm...and then have to refill it again.
In the twisties I was playing the tart...

I just had my 2014 RT in for the 9000 mile check up. Just before taking it in the low brake fluid warning came on. I left it on purpose so the dealership would top it off. I told them about it when I made the appointment so they ordered me new caps for the resivour

Oops, wasn't finished
They replaced them under warranty, hopefully they changed the design so they don't leak. That was the third time I had to add fluid.

This is the stuff I use in all my bikes. Its DOT 3/4, synthetic, fairly cheap and can get it just about anywhere.
