    Default Glove box won't latch

I did a search and found a couple of threads on this topic, but nothing that was able to solve my problem.

I've only had my Spyder RT for two and a half months, and now my glove box lid wont latch when I close it. I have tried pushing down on it, wiggling it around, fiddling with the latch, etc. etc. I even stripped off the tupperware and fiddled with the cable underneath. Nothing seems to work. The odd thing is, when I hold the lid while locking the steering, it locks. But the minute I unlock the steering, it pops open.

I called the service guy at my dealer and told him of the problem. He wasn't able to give me an estimate of what would be involved in fixing it, or how long it would take. Unfortunately, they are 140 miles away, and I hate to ride up there only to find out I'm looking at an all day job. My other alternative is to take it to <shudder> Ride Now here in the Valley.

I'd really like to just fix it myself if that's possible. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Pam

I gave you my answers before. My bet is the locking cable is stuck not allowing the latch to do it's thing.

Yeah, that was one of the things I checked. The cable moves freely when I push on it. In fact, if I hold the lid down and push on the cable with my finger, it latches. But when I let go, it releases. The little bar on the end of the lid is not locking the latch.

Hi, is it possible the glove box liner is pushing up on the cover? I took mine out for more storage. Good luck.

    Pam,
Do you see any way of adjusting the spatial relationship that those two pieces have?
Can you adjust the latch, pin, or mounting hardware of them?

Not that I can see. I was hoping that would be the case, but I don't see any adjustments in either the bar on the lid or the receiver in the latch.

It's a push push type latch. So there is a spring loaded mechanism that on fist push to latch moves a little pin mechanism to keep it latched. When the hook is down and you push the latch a 2nd push it moves the mechanism back and unlatches it.
Can you get it apart more (something I have not done myself) to see what the latch is actually doing?
Maybe it went bad like the spring came off or pin mechanism is stuck and not moving?

I'm going to remove the entire glove box after breakfast. I have the step by step instructions in my service manual.

NO--Not the Manual---never read the manual until you've exhausted all other possible means. Especially when installing add on accessories---I believe those instruction were written by the French to get over the embarrassment on Normandy Beach

For what it's worth, did you try turning the handlebars either full left or full right and then locking/unlocking them? This worked for me when my latch was in the locked position and I couldn't close the glove box.

Yes I did that when I was troubleshooting. If I turn the key into the "lock" position while holding down the lid on the glove box, it latches it. But as soon as I turn the key from the lock position, the glove box lid pops open. That doesn't do me any good while I'm riding though as the glove box is open to the elements.

    Thanks,

    Pam

Default cable issue but different from Bobs

On my wife's RT-S, the latch cable was on the wrong side of the key assembly. it caused issues with her frunk and her glovebox. moved the cable to the other side of the key assembly and all was golden!

If that is the case then it is a problem with the cable not the latch!

The cable runs from the key switch to the latch and turning the handlebars pulls the cable to keep it locked.
If turning the key unlatches it, sure sounds like a cable issue to me.

Since you have it apart watch my video for how to disconnect the cable at the gloce box latch and see if that solves it.
