Hail Storm
Went for a nice ride Mon night up around Mt Rushmore, ran into a hail storm. Hail the size of baseballs, did $1200 damage to the Spyder and if I hadn't been wearing a helmet I'd been out cold.

Scary! I got caught in a storm like that in Yellowstone on my Goldwing. Much smaller hail. Sorry about the bike, and I'm glad you're ok.

Thanks, my back looks like someone beat me with a golf club, I was in an area where there was no shelter for several miles, finally found a bridge to hide under.

In 2013 on the way to Spyderfest mike( blueknight911) and I went thru some nasty weather( hail, rain, thunder etc) when we got home( back to Vermont)
I noticed a small dent on the small compartment below the ignition, my insurance took care of it. At the time I had a 2012RTS-SE5. That was the only dent I had .
Glad you and your spyder are ok.

Thanks for all the well wishes, I came out better than the Spyder, right mirror gone, panel from the seat forward has a softball size hole, the right panel above your knee got damaged and the kill switch got damaged.

Wow, I saw pictures of the hail posted on Facebook and it looked like a real mess. Glad you didn't get hurt, sorry about your Spyder though.

Ouch! Bad break for sure. I have been in a few nasty thunderstorms, but hail is the worst!

Don't forget the "180" rule. When it looks that bad ahead make a 180 and get the hell out of there. I use the WX app on my Garmin 665 to avoid these things.
For Bob that would be a "360" and, well you know.

The sky was clear with looming clouds about 10 miles away when I got deep into the forest and wasn't paying attention to what little sky I could see. I was having too much fun on the tight twisty road, when it hit it seemed to be coming from the S no I headed N as fast as I could. It had swung around and came from the N and I ran right into it. It's very typical for storms in the Hills to look you're gonna get dumped on and simply miss you. Insurance adjuster will be here Tues, I got an estimate from the local dealer yesterday. No big deal. just part of riding.
