Need some assistance. I noticed last night that if you see on Pic 1 I have that black cup inside the wheel (sorry don't know what to call it), on PIc 2 is the black cup I am talking about. What is that black cup does to the brakes or what? I know that cup spins around. Thanks.

Just a crappy plastic cap that covers the stub axle. There are options that work better but most likely cheapest option is to get a new OEM unit and apply a little stylistic to hold it a little more securely.

Thank you Kenn, should I worry riding without if until I get a new one?

I would not be concerned at all about riding it during the very short time that it will take to get a replacement. My guess is that there are many out there riding without them, either knowingly or unknowingly. Based on a suggestion in an old forum thread, I applied some black silicone to mine in order to keep them from coming off too easily.

I rode mine from Las Vegas to Alaska and back without one and I didn't have any trouble.

There are actually four (4) such caps on your spyder. One on each end of the rear axel and one on each front axel on the inside behind the wheels. They help keep area clean and prevent rust etc.. actually I think they are just like hub caps. I would worry about the front wheel ones more so that the rear. The front ones do spin and if you should run across a plastic bag or anything that can get wound up in there it could mess up your brakes or abs system.
Interesting note , on our last ryde (15 spyders) two of them had one cap left up front and one had both (a 2015). Wonder if they all fall off or they never get put on..?? I have Lamonts caps though pricey very well made great accent and they don't fall off...

Wow going to take a look at my when i get off work.
Since it's over 90 degrees outside; I decided to wait until evening to check mine!
(Laying down on the blacktop just doesn't seem like a great idea... )
Hi Gene,
Are the ones up front the same size as the ones on the rear axle?
(I've got those OEM rear caps just sitting around: gathering dust!)
Mine came without caps (thats why I wonder if they forget to put them on). I would have to check but the rear cover a 36mm nut and the fronts I believe are smaller. What holds them in is the hollow center of the axle in the rear anyway....let me check... okay, upon inspection, they will work but you would have to cut down the center stem. The front axle is not hollow all the way threw. This may be the reason they fall off. On the rear they go in a couple of inches on the fronts not even an inch...

Just an item worth checking if you don't have the caps on your stub axles. "Ensure" wires and brake lines are securely fastened so as to not catch on the stub axle when they're rotating.
This was kicked around somewhere else on SL. I checked mine and was dissatisfied with how easily they came off so I applied a bit of Permatex RTV silicone to the attachment tabs and they aren't going anywhere now. For those who have lost and want to replace with OEM the 2014 PN is 705401100, cost $4.99.
