I am noticing by your previous posts that you just recently came off a 2013 ST. You mentioned issues with running rough in first gear on that one.

Seems similar with the 2014 RT mentioned above. You also mentioned that the 2014 was purchased used with 3,900 miles on it.

Is it possible that you are using wrong rpm's for shifting? The 1330 likes to be shifted in the 3,000 - 3,500 range. The 2013 (998) likes to be shifted in the 5,000 - 5,500 range.

Has you dealer addressed any of the issues on your new 2014? If the engine seems to be "bogging out," that does not sound right to me. Is there another rider that you trust who could possibly give yours a "test spin" just to see if they notice something out of order?

Please let us know what you find out.

Tell us a bit more about how you are driving it. The shift points of my 2014 get me moving the way I want if I'm just loafing. If I'm driving in a more spirited manner I shift in the 3,000 to 3,500 range. ECO mode flattens the torque curve. Have you read your owner's manual?

    otherwise be a vulgar brawl.

"Mine feels like it is bogging if I run in 6th gear below 75 and most have belt vibration around 70-75.
The fix is to stay in 5th till 80 unless you are going downhill or have a good tailwind."

Sorry: I've got the throw the Bull flag on this one...

I can drive 50 mph in 6th. The tach is running at 2850. If I need a surge of power--I only need to twist the throttle. The 1330 will "get up and go!"

When I pull my trailer with my 14 and run in sixth gear I will actually loose speed/rpm up a hill on the freeway, even I shift down to 5th it will not pick up again. Dropping down to 4th takes care of it and I can then shift to 5th. As the grade lessons I can go back into 6th. 6th is overdrive and great for mileage but you are not in the torque band. While not as obvious without the trailer, the same thing applies when I head up a good grade.

What are you hauling; Lead ingots?
Two-up and no trailer: my bike hauls me effortlessly with upshifts at the earliest possible instant.
2nd gear is too quick to even look at the speedo...
    3rd gear at 20 mph...
    4th at 27 mph...
    5th at 32...
    and 6th at 39 mph...

    As I said; it's effortless!

totally with bob. The 1330 has the power to move your Butt easy.My suggestion is try Eco mode to get the hang of the shift points.

There appears to be some of that going on of late. The trollinators seem to be doing a good job though.

I see that you publicly like to disagree with me almost anytime I make a comment.

Here: No sir. I did not call the OP (jima) a troll. He does not fit the description and has posted other threads that were interesting.

I did say....there have been a lot of trolls on board lately. It should be obvious who they are/were.

I was commenting on a statement made by another member.

If you are going to challenge me (and I am sure okay with that)--just please get your facts and information right.

Don't be so full of yourself. I was speaking to the group in general. I didn't quote you. I am not following you around and I honestly don't care what you say. Nothing personal...

The guy isn't all that impressed with the 1330 power. Either was I. Fact is that it's a good motor, but not a powerhouse great motor that some of the Kool aide drinking SL members make it out to be.

    Drew,
If you look at the "1330 versus the 998" debate, from a perspective that encompasses the larger picture; several other attributes start to surface:
    Lower maintenance costs
More torque at lower rpms does help to move a heavier load off of the line easier.
    The better fuel economy

Clearly; this is not an issue solely discussed at the chassis dyno or dragstrip.

When the six speed transmission is added to the mix; the gap between the two packages becomes greater.

Now: I'm NOT saying that the 998 isn't a good engine: depending upon your application and intended usage; there may be better ones that are available.

I think the beauty of the new engine and SE6 transmission is that there are no right or wrong shift points. I may shift at 3500nrpms while someone else shifts at 2500rpms the only thing that decides what shift is correct is the spyder. If the RPMs are too low for the next gear the spyder will not let you shift until the rpms are raised. I am not speaking about performance and shifting but just general riding and shifting. This is just my opinion and what I have noticed while reading the comments throughout this site about shifting gears in general.

    Hey Bob,
    I didn't think this was a comparison thread or a 998 vs. 1330 thread. That's a whole different topic.
The guy simply stated that he wasn't all that happy with the performance of the 1330 and there are quite a few of us who have a similar view who haven't made the model change. Maybe BRP will change that.....

It's kinda sad how a lot of you jump all over someone when they don't drink the latest flavor of kool aide and agree with the herd. It's like a lot of you have to try to convince someone that they are wrong when they don't like something, or are under impressed.

Personally, I've found that both motors make mediocre, at best, power in stock form. Some of us even believe poor power stock. The 1330 is a slug and completely uninspiring motor. Like riding a tractor. However, if muling it up, lugging around in a single gear, not worrying about shifting, and being happy about slightly better fuel economy is your thing, then the 1330 will do the job just fine, especially with the SE tranny. Go get em'!

It's time for BRP to REALLY step it up!

When you've ridden the 998 and the 1330; it lends some perspective to the discussion.
I'm not bashing the 998s; I just like the 1330 better.
