Accelerating with cruise control on

I have a 2014 RTL. I notice I cannot accelerate with the cruise control on. I have to disengage the cruise control, accelerate, and then reset the cruise. I can increase the speed in small amounts with the cruise but cannot accelerate quickly using the throttle. Never had this with any other vehicle. Is this standard for these units or does mine have a problem?

All I have to do is twist the throttle to accelerate.... You may have a throttle sensor issue.... Wouldn't hurt to have your dealer have a look..... Are you still in warranty?

Now I have a 13, but I can accelerate nicely with the cruise control on....................unless I am doing 100 with the cruise control on!

It does sound like you are having an issue with your cruise control. Throttling up and applying brake should both over ride the system. I recommend having your dealer check it out.

Also recommend not to use it until you have it checked. It would be a real issue were you not able to turn the thing off.

.............On my 2014 RT I have had the cruise on and snapped the throttle open to pass with no issue......Then it returned to the last speed it was set for.........Something doesn't sound right here ........Mike

How far are you turning the throttle when you have the cruise control on?
I noticed on mine I have to turn the throttle a bit more than you would think to accelerate when the cruise control is on..

You're flying by wire. When you set the cruise control it electronically applies the appropriate engine revs to meet the speed you've set -- how far you had the throttle turned when you set the speed. The mechanical return spring in the throttle grip always returns the grip to the idle position, that is unless you hold the throttle grip against the spring tension but if you wanted to do that why you would you set the cruise control. Therefore, if you want to manually exceed the speed you set the cruise control at, you must first turn the throttle grip back to where it was when you set the speed and then the more you turn it the more speed you will add over the cruise setting. At least that's the way mine works.

I cannot comment on the Can Am.....BUT.....my 2010 Ultra Classic and my 2014 FJR are both TBW.....same thing applies to both of them. To accelerate from the set speed, you first have to twist the throttle past where it was located when the cruise was set.

I thought I had the same issue where no acceleration with cruise on.I found I was just not twisting the throttle enough.On my Wing it was totally different because it used cables.Take it out and try again.I think you,lol find it,s ok.
