I believe that there are blanks you can use, to fill in the empty spots.
I believe that there was a thread bouncing around in the RT shop talk area just a little while ago.
With some research; you should be able to find it.

EDIT: It wasn't in there... I'll keep trying to find it for you...

You have to unplug both gauges to get the digital display.

This is what I put in one side. A digital volt gauge.

On the other side I have a RAM mount right now but plan on putting a compass there as soon as it arrives.

You must have a different wiring system in the States if you need to disconnect both gauges to allow the fuel and temp digital indicators to show.
Every RT I've had anything to do with or discussed with owners on the subject indicate only a single gauge needs to be disconnected for digital gauges to start working.

You are correct somewhat. I did a experiment on this trying to see if I could keep the analog temp gauge working but remove the fuel gauge.

If you disconnect the temp gauge but leave the fuel gauge, the digital display will not switch. If you unplug the fuel but leave the temp gauge, then you will get the digital display but the temp gauge pegs.

This is on a 2011 RTS.
