I had a code flash on my dash today. I had just filled up and was rolling out of the gas station. I have a heel toe shifter and sometimes it doesn't fully engage when downshifting from second to first. It seemed to happen and then the code "Failure" flashed on my screen. I popped it into first and it immediately went out. I was on a Club ride and we rode 400 miles today. My bike was perfect from then on with no incidents. Anyone know what "Failure" indicates?

need more to go on. Failure...?? A missed or hung up shift usually gives you an E in the gear position or you get a code for the gear position sensor. If its a quick miss then clears it should be fine. Adjust the shifter to avoid this especially if to close to the floorboards...

This computers obviously didn't like something that it felt.
It won't automatically flash the codes: you have to go and get them.
Do you know how to pull the codes from your bike?
Think of it as a, "shot being fired across your Bow..."
The gas station fillup/flash a code scenario happens quite a lot.
IMO--it is usually caused by the driver trying to rush the start up procedure. The "nanny" gets mad and fires the proverbial shot across your bow.
If less than 5 minutes or so during the fillup, when keying the ignition, the main screen will come on allowing you to step on the brake, push the starter, and you are up an running.
If you exceed the time above (your machine may vary), you are then required to push the mode button and "play the game."
Sometimes, but not always, the does not like fast shifts up front. The famous "E" will show up.
The fact you were on a group ride, causes me to think that something above happened. The fact that all was well thereafter, seems to confirm same.

The only time I've seen the word "Failure" is during the "Break Failure" message.
It just may have been a fluke, or you may want to keep an eye on your break fluid level. Sometimes it only takes a teaspoon full, to bring it up to where it should be.
....and we're gonna ride, we're gonna ride.....
ride like the one-eyed Jack of Diamonds, with
the devil close behind,.....we're gonna ride....
I think I missed the word that flashed before Failure. Like I said it cleared and did not reappear. How do you check codes after the fact?
Pulling codes on an RS?
Sorry; RT jockey here...
We need an RS Pilot to step up to the plate...
The computers will only the show the active codes that are giving it fits at that moment.
You need to hook it up to a BUDS diagnostics unit, in order to pull up all of the stored codes...

This is just what happened. I was in a hurry because the guys were waiting for me. I also probably over-filled the tank a little. Anyway, we rode 400 hard miles on the day without any problems. Thanks for the input.

I built a site that will tell you how to check the codes and what they mean. It is still up, I haven't updated it in awhile. Probably in Aug when the domain name expires I'm going to take it down. I don't think anybody really uses it. Go to www.spyderhelp.com

Thanks Bob, that does help. I used the site to help a guy out at spyderfest who was getting a code that he didn't know what was. Most people are wanting native apps now instead of web apps. I remember hearing somewhere that BRP was supposed to be coming out with and app but I haven't seen it and can't remember where I seen that at.

Glad it helped and you are welcome. I did just update some of the dealers the other day and added a new one. If you see anything that needs updating let me know. If use picks up I probably will renew the name. There is an email link at the bottom of the page. www.spyderhelp.com

I got the DESS KEY CODE on my spyder, here are pictures of what I got:
It is a good thing that I was @ home, when the above happened. I tried the other spare key, and I got the same DESS KEY CODE, then I took both keys, walked away from the spyder & waited about 5 minutes, tired it again and the spyder did not start. I tried both keys and I got the same DESS KEY CODE.
Question: If I was on the road when the above happened would the factory warranty cover it?
Also I have Towing & Labor cost coverage on my insurance policy, would my insurance policy cover it?
Or would the Roadside Assistance cover it?

Is your Spyder completely disabled because of this? If so, this is very dreadful!
