How great of an employee would they be if they hurt someone while on the job and the employer was sued for hiring a pot head. Brilliant
Even if they haven't used in a few days, and they tested positive, that's a case the employers going to loose...

If you can't cope in this world without drugs, pot, and alcohol maybe you should not be here. Try a little counseling and stop blaming all your problems on your Mom and Dad. They did the best they could with what little they had to work with!
Try a little Reality Therapy. It works wonders and makes you feel better about yourself. Well I guess by now you know how I feel about the subject.

Employers (been one for 30+ years) have this thing called insurance for such situations.
Which would you rather have on the job:
1. Guy who drank a case of beer the night before and shows up hungover.
2. Guy who smoked a joint the night before and shows up unaffected and well rested?
I'll take #2 any day of the week.
How many employees show up to work on various legal prescription drugs? Or even over-the-counter meds that could affect them?
Your judgement against 'pot heads' over those who drink or use Rx Meds is based on emotion, not fact and logic.
Again, no one is supporting or promoting being under the influence of any drugs while working, driving, etc.
For all you know, your current employees are popping Vicodin or Oxy every night and still have it in their system the next day.

Well.. your nephew did a stupid thing then didn't he?
How is that different than showing up drunk or on opiates from your doctor???
So he got fired and the store had zero liability... right?
My policy is this..... not under the influence while at work... but we might finish the days work early and crack open a beer from the company fridge.

About a week ago, or so, someone posted a story about a businessman in Denver closing up and moving to the Carolinas because his workers were showing up "stoned".

Here in Battle Creek, a man was fired from Walmart distribution because he tested positive for pot. The man was a 10 year employee with stage 4 cancer.
Using pot helps the man be able to eat and manages his pain and seizures..... Yet Walmart fired him.

my problem isn't the person using pot but it keeps his brain fuzzy for hours later, would you like someone to install your
wheel & may forget to tighten your lug nuts? how about he is on a machine that you have to be careful with or you
will hurt yourself or damage MY equipment? if my painter smoked pot during HIS lunch break would you be upset if your
wheel had a drip in the paint or clear?
I absolutely have no problem with legallizing pot the way cigarettes & alcohol are legal but i won't allow it to interfere
with my business or life.

Your nephew was not the stupid one here. Our conservative christian society is the problem. He was just doing an act that until 1935 was perfectly legal. And as you stated, an act performed not on the job, but the weekend prior. A pee test can show traces of THC for up to a month after use. The swob test is like a two or three day thing, so even that isn't a good gauge for telling if people are under the influence at the moment. Better testing needs to be developed.
Hypothetical question Bob.
The powers to be in their infinite wisdom outlaw bacon and lets say firearms. You work for a company that now has a zero tolerance for the new laws. Are you going to sit there and tell me you are never going to eat bacon again or never own another gun (cannabis is safer to use than those two items). Does this sound silly to you? That is just how silly it is to criminalize cannabis. No matter how you slice it, this is suppression at it's finest.

Hence why I've said 'not under the influence' while at work.

Oh what is a person to do?
It's crazy for an employer to drug test unless there's a problem with the employees performance.
Is take a guy that smokes weed over an oxy addict any day.... Yet they won't test for oxy because it's 'legal'.
