Spyder stuck in reverse
I have a 2009 Spyder SE5, I was moving my bike from the garage and it stalled in reverse and now it won't start. This happened to me about a year ago and I was able to fix it simply and quickly but for the life of me I can't remember what I did. Anybody else have this same issue? Is there maybe a kill switch or something similar that I should be checking??

Try stepping on the brake when you push the start button. You could also have bumped the kill switch on the handlebar.

Bummer..!!
Start the starting proceedure again pressing the brake. Should start. If not you can manually shift to neutral with a supplied wrench at the shift shaft. As mentioned if no cranking also check your kill switch.

As others have said a SE5 will start in any gear. You just have to press the brake pedal while pressing the starter button. After the engine has started the transmission will shift to neutral on it's own.

I have tried pressing hard on the brake and it didn't work. I am not positive where the kills witch is but I'm thinking that's my problem.

I was able to manually switch the gear into N but it still will not start ... so frustrating!

Also, when I turn the key on it goes through the cycle, I push the M button and then start and it just cycles up again without starting, checked my battery and fuses ... they all seem to be good.

I remember something about turning the key on and off 5 times quickly. That resets all the codes on the computer or something. Just a thought.

With all due respect, if you do not know where the kill switch is located, you need to sit down and carefully read the Owner's Manual from beginning to end.

Hope this helps...
Guys, I am guessing he knows that the big red toggle won't let the bike start if it is in the wrong position. I actually had this kind of problem on the F3.
I backed into a parking spot and then hit the paddle to take it out of reverse. On my old RSS, I would be in neutral. On the F3, it automatically was put in first gear. I hit the parking brake and shut off the bike with the kill switch and went on my way.
When I came back and tried to start it, It cycled through and stayed in first gear. No start. It just sat there. I really wish I could remember the exact things I did to get it started, but I know for sure, it involved rocking the bike forward and back a bit while the key was in the on position.

I hope you are not trying to say it has to be in neutral to start?

Hi CanAmChris,
Re: the big red toggle won't let the bike start if it is in the wrong position.
I came out of a restaurant the other day and the Spyder would not do anything. Tried a 2nd time and zilch. Sat there, looked around & went: DUH, how dumb can I be?
Anyone can make this simple mistake; well, if I did then anyone can.

Just giving the guy the benefit of the doubt. The electronics on a spyder are way more complicated and sensitive then anything else I have ever rode. My Harley will let me start it up in first gear and it will lurch forward causing a distinct lack of skin on my shin.

I just had the same issue, stuck in reverse, brake pressed, kill switch off, still no start. Bumped the shifter lever below the drive belt, and VIOLA, it started. And I of course discovered it is a ratchet shifter.
