National Loyalty Day is observed annually on May 1. This day is set aside for the reaffirmation of loyalty to the United States and for the recognition of the heritage of American freedom.
On Loyalty Day, we reaffirm our allegiance to our country and resolve to uphold the vision of our Forefathers. We should also take a moment to appreciate the members of our armed forces who are displaying the ultimate in loyalty and service to protect our freedoms, and liberty, and our way of life.
By the grace of God and the dedicated service of our military men and women, we go to bed each night and wake up each morning in a free country. We have much to be thankful for, today and everyday.
I am sorry I was not aware of that day. I recently became a US citizen after first following the correct steps for imigration and naturalization. I am Canadian by birth and came to the US to marry my american wife. Canada too is a great country with much of the same values of the US however I felt it necessary to full assimulate out of repect for my new home.
I am so proud to say I am american and remind myself every day of that fact. There are so many people involved that keep the american dream alive from the police, coast gaurd, military and so many more. They put thier lives in harms way and keep the evil in this world at arms length.
After recent events I have seen these brave men an women put in horrific situations with no support from above. I am sure there a a few bag apples but frankley I am fed up with this treatment. The pendulum has swung far too left and it is time, we the people, let it be known.
For you serving and for the veterians of this county I support you and I salute you for your service. I also appologies on behave of those that have failed you, keep strong and with luck, we, the people will make the pendulum swing back to rest as it was envisioned by the founding fathers of this great nation.
May 1 is May Day. The traditional communist labor day. Still celebrated in many european countries and a day for rallies and protests around labor movements world wide including the US.
This loyalty day thing is a recent 'politically correct' rewrite of the tradition.....
The 4th of July is the day we celebrate the USA and the freedoms it represents. Its also an officially recognized holiday.

Everyday is loyalty day in my family. We are all Vets or active duty including my wife, two sons and our daughter-in-law.
By the way I wouldn't want a White House that acknowledged a single day as national loyalty day. EVERY day all the way!
The flag posted above is my new desktop wall paper! Thanks for sharing!
This day has been acknowledged by every White House for decades....
The holiday was first observed in 1921, during the First Red Scare.[2] It was originally called "Americanization Day,"[3] and it was intended to replace the May 1 ("May Day") celebration of the International Workers' Day,[citation needed] which commemorates the 1886 Haymarket Massacre in Chicago.[4] During the Second Red Scare, it was recognized by the U.S. Congress on April 27, 1955,[5] and made an official reoccurring holiday on July 18, 1958 (Public Law 85-529).[1][6] President Dwight D. Eisenhower proclaimed May 1, 1955, the first observance of Loyalty Day.[7] In 1958 Eisenhower urged Congress to move Child Health Day to the First Monday in October, to avoid conflicting with Loyalty Day[6][8] Loyalty Day has been recognized with an official proclamation every year by every president since its inception as a legal holiday in 1958.[9][10]

Appreciate your patriotism towards the United States... but with all due respect, this is a Spyder Forum.. not a political soapbox. Your opinions on 'no support from above', 'pendulum swinging too far left' and what our 'Founding Fathers envisioned' frankly have no place out here.
This board should be a politics-free zone.

How about if it was just moved to the "Off-'Topic" area?
The Off Topic area would certainly be a better place for the original post.. but even then, some of posts are problematic... if you allow one political opinion... then you open it up to other opinions as well.
Best to keep this a neutral zone.
I've learned not to push my Atheistic and Left-wing opinions out here... wish others would do the same.
No need to bash our President or the White House out here... that's what Facebook is for....

I would offer the opinion, that discussing "Politics", is meant to address the issue of discussing Political Parties or Candidates and issues being addressed during an election.
A general discussion about a Patriotic Holiday is pretty well-removed from that can of worms.

I have zero issue with mentioning a Patriotic Holiday... just some of the comments that followed..
Oh well.. not my circus.. not my monkeys.....

I LIKE that!
I've been guilty on more than several (thousand!) occasions, of pulling the discussion in a thread off into murky waters.
But if the folks in here just keep reminding one another to keep it amicable and on-point:
