    Default Tires

    225/50/15 205/55/15
    section width 8.86 8.07
    overall diameter 23.86 23.88
    circumference 74.95 75.01
    mph 65 65.01
I had my dealer put on my new back tire yesterday. I went with a Nitto 205/55/15. It has a 45k mile tread wear warranty.
I can't wait to see how it does.

    Default TIRES

Yes, many have used that tire ............but a better re-placement size is actually 215/60-15 because this size will correct the speedometer error present on all Spyders...............At least up to 2014............I don't know about the 15's yet........Mike

I disagree Mike. Discount Tire calculator says that tire is 1.3 inches larger in diameter and at 65mph you actually be traveling 68.4 mph.
What is the speedometer error you mention.
Any time I pass a Your Actual Speed portable trailer mine has always been right on.

Well that speed would be perfect because with the stock size rear tire my speedo was 3mph faster than the GPS was reading. With a 215/60/15 for over 10,000 miles I can tell you that the speedo is just about right on with the gps. I will be using this size from now on, many options of tread and brands in this size. Thanks Mike!

Yes; the 215/60 will alter your speedometer reading by 5%...
If that's really important to you!

All Spyders show about 3 mph faster than actual @ 65. Law prohibits speedo from showing slower so to be safe they show faster. You can't trust those roadside signs. They show faster so drivers will slow down. Check your speedo with a GPS.

You can drive yourself NUTZ over trying to "fix" the speedometer with a change in tire size...

Run whatever works best for you...

    Default Congrats..!!

Nice tire for the review...don't sweat the speedometer difference.. If you get a speeding ticket it won't be over a 2-5 mph difference.. at least not in my case...

FWIW, a 215/60R15 Michelin HydroEdge running at 28 psi on my '12 RT-S makes the two agree with one MPH difference. So I'm as happy as I need to be.

I too will stick with that size, mainly cuz I got another HydroEdge waiting in the basement just like it.

    Default tires

I have had three apyders a 2010, 2012 2014 and all speedometer readings have been two miles faster than both of the two different brands of GPS I have used on all three bikes. My neighbor has owned two spyders and has had the same experience.

I just wanted to match the oem with a good quality tire that'll get more than 10k miles out of a $180 Kenda
If I get 20k out of a $94 tire I'll be more than pleased....

    Dom,
This looks like a job for a man with a tape measure...
Just remember: you'll need to run a lower profile tire in order to keep the overall diameter just about the same as the OEM...

You are headed in the right direction. I have 10,000 on my Michelin rear tire with 7/32 left of tread, 20,000 may be a possibility.

Well I bought a Pirelli P4 215/60R15, now the dealer says the computer may be affected by the larder diameter than the original tire.

    Any thing on that.

    Good evening Mike,

So in essence, what you are saying is that there should not be a problem with the computer, as the dealer's mechanic is assuming there will be.

    Thanks

The mechanic will "err n the side of caution"; because they don't want any problems brought back...
Usage of this size has shown that the 5% difference SEEMS to fall within the computer's ability to ignore it.
(But I'd prefer the 205/55-15 size; if I was going to mess around with a non-stock size. I think that the lesser width MIGHT make for less rolling resistance, and hydroplaning.)
