Default 08 GS Steering recall question

    Hello,
I'm looking at an 08 GS with 19k miles at a non Can Am dealer. I did some research and found there were steering issues that required a recall. If the recall wasn't done, would I still be ok to get it done or would it be on my dime seeing it's now 7 years old? I'll try and get the VIN from them today and call a Can Am dealer and see if they can find it was done. Thanks.

That was a safety recall. If it's not been done yet, there should be no charge to be done by a Can Am Spyder dealer.

So it's just a software update? Not an actual parts change? Thanks.

I am sure they replace the electric power steering motor & probably do some kind of software update as well. Any Can-Am dealer can verify if it has been done or not if you give them the VIN.

I have a 2008 also, and it was more than a software update. They (BRP) originally tried only a software update for a few of those with their 2008 and 2009 GS spyders who had a problem; but, that didn't work. They then replaced the DPS for all 2008 and 2009 owners.

That is exactly what to do. If the DPS had not been replaced it should be done free of charge.
