Default Break in Recommendations for the 1330

What's everyone doing to properly "break in" the 1330. When should I change the oil for the first time ?

    Bill:

This is my thoughts (don't be scared)

1st time at or very close to 3,000 miles and have it done by the dealer.

Then every 7,000 to 9,000 miles thereafter, you can change it yourself or have someone knowledgeable do it (keep good records), my personal preference after reading all this stuff about oil viscosity (I don't know what that word means) is that i try to change it at, or just over 7,000 miles.

I just follow the break in instructions in the manual:
First 600 miles no hard braking, no prolonged rides, no full throttle acceleration.
    Free inspection at 300 mi,
    first service at 600 mi
It is all in the manual.

I WOULD SUGGEST THAT YOU CHECK YOUR MANUAL AGAIN, THIS IS THE DIRECTIONS FOR A 990 V TWIN ENGINE, YOU HAVE A f3S WITH A 1330 ENGINE.

    you have the wrong manual.

I agree ............................. The manual says first three thousand and then every 9300 after that, i think that the 9300 is pushing it.

So if I understand right, ryde for 600 miles before stomping on brakes really hard and no racing, then you take it back to dealer at 3,000 miles for the first service?

I believe that is correct for the F3s because they have the same engine and tranny that the 14+ RTs have

The real term is "wear in," which is literally correct, but can you sell it now? I suspect doing so would be at least as hard as getting people to correctly use "problem" instead of "issue".

I've also seen "bed in" in reference to brake pads/shoes (British).

    RE: the 1330 triple

The manual also states at least once a year if you do less miles. The miles to change oil have been quoted all over the place, included by people from BRP.

It's to late to go dig the manual out of the Spyder tonight, but I am going to re-check the page just for my own satisfaction. I will post what I find tomorrow AM--unless someone beats me to it first.

Mine was done at 4K and I am now at 10K. Mine is going in for a oil change & filter once I start riding again. The next oil change after spring startup will be at whatever I find recommended in the manual.

According to BRP and their manual ............................. you are incorrect.

It is 3,000 + 9,300 = 12,300. (according to BRP and their manual).

But you may follow any schedule that you think is best for your Spyder.

You may follow any schedule that you think is best for your Spyder but, to tell others the wrong schedule is not productive to anyone.

    Cruzr Joe
The graphic from BRP seems to be the thing that causes a lot of confusion here. As you posted in the other thread, the comments from the operators manual state it more precise.

What you stated above. First change at 3000 miles. Second oil change at +9,300 miles (12,300) and then the rest of the oil changes at 9,300 mile intervals or once a year--whichever comes first.

Since I owned a Harley prior to the Spyder, I was a little concerned when I read about the oil change intervels. I talked to the shop manager where I purchased mine and he said the same thing that is in the manual. First one at 3000, then each subsequent one at 9300. I specifically asked if it was 9300 and not 6300 (3000 + 6300 = 9300) and he said that it was every 9300 after the initial one. That is for a 14, RT Limited SE6.
