as far as having ti sign so you don't have the work done on your bike, i would think with the reputation they have for the heat, if you ever want to sell or trade in the bike you will take a big loss if you don't have it done. also god forbid the bike ever burns would the insurance cover you if there was a so called fix and you didn't have it done

That would be a distinct possibility... those vents up front DO seem to allow more airflow through the Tupperware.

Default MY (LACK OF) INFO FROM BRP

Some Emails back & forth between me & Damien Roy at BRP.

    Good Morning Damien,

I was wondering if you could shed any light on the upcoming recall on the 2013 RT's, such as when it will be announced by BRP, and what the remediation will entail. There are a lot of us 2013 owners - myself included - who are very anxious to know what is going to be done to our machines to alleviate the problems we are having. Any insight you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank You,
    Allen Patrick

    Mr. Patrick,

The parts required to provide a remedy to this condition will become available starting in May 2015. BRP has identified a viable solution to the issue which is in the final validation phase.

As soon as the solution addressing the issue is fully validated and ready to be deployed, your dealer will receive a letter and bulletin and will be ready to perform the safety recall work on your vehicle.

A letter will be sent to all known registered owners to immediately contact their authorized BRP dealer in order to have the vehicle serviced with the solution. BRP is fully committed to getting the solution deployed with as little delay as possible.

    Damien

Thank you for your reply. I would point out that it is now May 4th 2015. Is there any time line for May as to when this will be announced?
    Allen Patrick

    Mr. Patrick,

A specific date in May has not been communicated with me at this time.

    Damien

It seems that the left hand at BRP does not know what the right hand is doing. Makes me wonder, why all the secrecy? If there is a solution, put it out there. I was at my dealer today to drop off a Wolo Bad Boy horn for them to install while my RT is in for maintenance, and the owner told me that he has heard nothing whatsoever from BRP about a recall. I know that he is not on this forum, as he told me some time ago that he did not have the time to play around on social media. Sad state of affairs when dealers don't know what they are going to have to deal with. Just my 2 cents worth.

We are Bob.... "Hanging in" for the last 2 years but after 2 years we are slipping....

When this mod does not pan out BRP will again delay us till the winter season and next year they'll tell us.. no warranty...too old.. too many miles.....??

My cardiology specialist has warned me exposure to raw gas fumes with my heart condition.. not a good idea.
I took him outside yesterday and let him access the risk showing him the bike while it was warm.... there is a big risk.. I need this fixed, 2 years ago..

But then his opinion might not count cause he rides G-Wing....

I don't think that would happen...
The problems have clearly been noted within the warranty period... The warranty applies even if the repairs take place after the warranty expires.
You're now assuming that it won't work; Why?
Remember: BRP has to satisfy NHTSA also...

You're into it for this much, and this long; the fix is coming, and I bet that it'll work!

BRP doesn't need any more bad press about the bikes!

Bob, not only the NHTSA but also Transport Canada. And the BRP solution will be the same for both USA and Canada.

According to Andre from BRP the rules and regulations related to safety recalls prohibit publicizing it until it has been accepted by the regulators. He indicated that has happened but BRP legal probably wants to make sure the announcement is legally fool proof. I don't know, just my guess.

If this is a safety recall and I think it is.Has nothing to do with warranty and they have to fix it.As far as I know they have 3 tries and if they can,t fix the problem .Then it,s buy back.

I agree with Bob on this one.

I am confident that BRP have come up with a viable solution and am patiently waiting for the fix to be applied to my bike. I am anticipating that wont take place until early June. Let's face it the parts have to be produced and shipped to the dealers in the first instance.

First off - sorry for all of those that own a 2013 Spyder that has this overheating issue.

Not sure if this has been said before, but why would this not fall under the lemon law? Bring the Spyder in for heat issues, and keep bringing it in - if it cannot be fixed in 3 attempts (or whatever your state law specifies for lemon law) would this not fall under the lemon law? Having the fuel tank, which is below you midsection, get hot is not something that I would be going on long rides with. If the Spyder falls into the lemon law because the dealer cannot fix the heat issue, BRP would then have to buy your trike back, and then you can purchase a newer one and enjoy a machine that does not cook you while you are enjoying a ride in the great outdoors.

Maybe this is a mute point now that there is a voluntary recall notice in Canada and USA.

I hope that this gets taken care of soon.

And most lemon laws put the buy back at current market value, not cost new or replacement cost.

Also its not an item specific to the bike that the dealer can fix. Since there is a pending listed NHTSA recall, the lemon law timing would be suspended to await.

Lemon laws really don't help much in this instance.

The letters to Oz RT 13 owners have started going out - if you don't get a letter, I suggest you email Simon Kendrick at BRP Sydney (Botany) to make sure your name/VIN is on his database.
