    Default Spare key?

Wanted to share some info about where to have your coded (chipped) key duplicated or cut. For standard non chipped/coded keys can be duplicated at Walmart, Home-depot and or Ace hardware. But they won't and can not duplicate a key that has a chip and needs to be coded. State-Wide Lock & Safe, Inc located at 7500 E. Colfax Avenue in Denver, 80220 (303) 333-0146 can and will cut or duplicate your blank Can Am Spyder chipped key at a reasonable price.
Note: My dealer in Lakewood, Co. will reset the codes for your keys at a cost of $35 with appointment.

Default Requirements to add "spare" key.

To add a spare key requires both a key that is already programmed and a MASTER KEY available from a dealer. This will allow you to add another key. The MASTER KEY is for programming only as it is not cut to actually turn in the ignition switch.

I had a key made without the chip so I could use it as a valet key. I lock my chip key into the trunk using the valet key. The blank key is a ilco number X270. I had to order them online. No place locally here had the blank key but had it cut at a local hardware. I will have some spare blanks at Spyderfest. PM me during Spyderfest if you want one.

Remember the 14 and 15 keys are different. 13 and prior will not work in 14 and 15. Most dealers only stock the 13 and prior keys.

It is possible to have a key cloned for models prior to 2014. That process doesn't require the master key as the cloned key's code matches one that is already recognized by the bike. There were at least a couple of threads about a year and a half to two years ago that went into great detail about how to get it done.

I am using a cloned key, haven't used the OEM key in almost a year now.

Thanks I didn't know that. The blanks I have works on the 2012.

Same as 2013 and earlier. It only makes a difference for chipped keys.
