I carry a H&K USP Compact, and sometimes a Sig P320 Subcompact. My wife carries a Sig P226.

No matter what you decide to carry, it needs to be something that YOU feel comfortable with shooting, and that your proficient with.

Everyone seem to have their favorites and why they like them. There are so many different pistols/revolvers on the market, and so many different ways to carry them. Hope you find something that you really enjoy shooting.

I would suggest that you find a local range that allows you to rent pistols so you can find something that you really enjoy shooting. That way you don't purchase something and later figure out that it's not what you really want to shoot.

At my age, with so many bulges in places where there aren't supposed to be bulges, I could conceal an M60 and nobody would notice

I always carry, regardless on Spyder or truck, and it's usually a FiveseveN but I do carry an FNX 45 tac with TLR-2 and RMR from time to time. Big, yes, but wearing the proper clothing to accommodate it, it works. IWB is the style of holster I prefer to use, normally 3 - 4 position.

    Default Agree with this advice!

If necessary, get someone there to tutor you a bit. I wouldn't suggest starting out with a heavy weapon unless you are certain you can carry that comfortably all day.

Then consider how you want to carry it. I use OWB as about anything bigger than a tiny 380 sags my pockets too much. If you use OWB holster, get a wide stiff belt. Makes it way more comfortable.

For a newbi, a revolver is hard to beat. Its gonna fire every time you pull the trigger. Most autoloaders do too, but can
    be more problematic for beginners.

I carried a Ruger LCR 38spl for a good while....very light, can shoot +P bullets. Stings the hand, even with regular loads, but does the job. A five shot, very lightweight, about 17 oz. ABout $350.

I recently transitioned back into autoloaders. Lots of excellent ones out there. One I used was a Ruger LC9s...a 9mm, 17oz empty, fires any bullet without fail, right out of the box. Hard to beat product. About $360.

I'm currently carrying, at various times, 3 Kahr's: a 380, 9mm, 45acp. Holds 7, 8, 7 bullets. About 12, 17 & 21 oz empty. I like their long smooth trigger. They are not for everyone and can be problematic until they've been shot a lot to break-in. I had no issues with any of mine, but a few folks do. Each of these cost from $340-375 approx.

Another outstanding 9mm also in the 17oz range is the S&W Shield. Gets rave reviews on gun forums. About $360 also.

Same weight but less expensive and gets good reviews is the Bursa Thunder 380. Made in Argentina or Brazil I think. Under $300. Find used for $250 or less.

Don't underestimate the 380. It will penetrate gelatin 8-10 inches. I can carry mine all day and not know its there. The 9mm carry's well too but you know you've got more weight and have to hitch the belt a notch tighter.

Get on Highroad gun forum and start reading up. Go to gun shows and fondle the products.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
Go rent several guns and see what you like. I carry a Ruger SP101. 5 shots, 357. Hurts to shoot but does the job well. Easily concealed and does not make me walk in circles. Best Wishes.

Wow & here in OPEN carry state I holster my 410 judge but do better just avoiding areas where I may need. (Less legal headache too). Not so well I add as I was mugged in June fyi good thing I wasnt carring then they TKO from behind & I woke up to cops. Wallet only thing missing & nice shiner. If I had they would have it too. But trouble seems to FIND me look in my album & might understand.

    NoNoNoNoNo...
Please leave your inner redneck tied to the front porch...
Think about it this way: If every traffic "problem" erupted with gunfire; exactly HOW long do you think it'd be, before they took our gun rights away?

This works better... follow them home, and note the location...
If their house burns one evening...

I figured that this was more hypothetical; than anything!
As Gun Owners, we need to have ZERO mistakes with our firearms. Every time something ugly happens; we ALL get painted with the same brush!

We're not to judge all Muslims by the acts of a few "crazies," but the acts of a few American craziesis enough to judge all Americans who own guns.
