A lot of wave info there. I thought it was just one wave. I wave every time i meet a fellow biker, no matter what kind of bike. Sometimes i get a wave back and sometimes i don't, but it's all good.

Fun read...!!
lots of theories on the wave, when where how and to whom...I wave to everyone cause I'm glad to be alive and on the open road. If they don't wave at least I got to stretch my arm and wiggle my fingers ( shows me things are still working)...

Experiences here:
- Winter everyone waves
- Summer - not sunny - everyone waves
- Summer - back roads - sunny - everyone but some Harley riders wave
- Summer - main roads - sunny - weekday - everyone but some Harley riders wave
- Summer - main roads - sunny - Sundays - No one waves
Basically only the Sunny Sunday riders are too 'cool' to wave at Spyders.

That's funny because I've noticed almost the same thing here, but substitute "mountains" for back roads and "flatlands" for the main roads.

I own a few bikes and what I found is that...
When I ride my cruiser everyone waves back (cruiser, sport bike, dual sport, bagger, wing and trike riders).
When I ride my sport bike most people wave back, there will always be the occassional HD rider that refuses to acknowledge a sport bike rider.
When I ride my Spyder hardly anyone waves back, including other trike riders.

Give a sport bike rider the 'boot' wave and you'll likely get a return.

I wave my way to most every biker. If they don't wave back, or don't like the way I wave, well, that's their problem, not mine, especially since I am not giving them the finger!

I always wave. I get the return wave most of the time, and quite often the other rider has waved first. I feel it is a courtesy and how much time and effort does it really cost you? Now, if I am on some twisties, I am not sacrificing safety for courtesy. But either is the other guy. Drive safe, be courteous and most of all, HAVE FUN. Life is too short.

My favorite wave happened when I was driving down a country road in Wasilla. I saw a powered wheelchair coming down the road. The rider looked like a Nam Vet. Beard, a bit well worn, etc.
I slowed down and gave him the biker wave. His face lit up and he gave me a thumb up from each hand. I had a feeling that I made his day, just by giving him a wave.

The wave is a sign its a good day for riding
I wave at all motorcycles. I'm not pickey. Here in Texas on the back roads, I wave a farmers on their tractors, people checking their mail boxes, even cars. I wave because of the joy I have still being able to ride.
God Bless
