    Default Horsepower

What the horsepower of a 2014 RT LTD 1330? People always ask me and I just tell them that its faster than I need to go. There is another question. What's the top speed? Fastest that you will admit on-line to having gone? Just curious.

I thought I read somewhere that the quarter mile times were in the 17 sec bracket for the RT. That seems unrealistically slow. Then I read it will blow any Harley but the VRod out of the water!

I haven't put mine to any test yet....if ever.

    Default There you go...!!

Running our RS set up the way it is ran out of road at 117 mph. Good enough for me. Have no idea about the 1330 ace motor with the new six speed. But goveners will have a say...

There is probably a speed limit set in the ECU but I've no idea what it would be.

These bikes are limited only by aerodynamics.

You had better leave those VRods alone... they are MUCH quicker than a Spyder..

    Default Limiter

The limiter is supposed to be set for 135 on the 2014 RT-S. Don't know if that is accurate.

Those guys on the Busa's were slowly pulling away from me.

I have to agree on that. Or the driver of the busa must wasn't in a hurry, cause the Hayabusa is built for speed.

I used to ride my Concours with a guy who rode a Hyabusa. He could leave me behind like my engine was dead. A Concours will run off and leave a Spyder like the engine was dead. People just don't realize what that kind of power to weight ratio can do.

Edit: I just did a little research out of curiosity and here is what I found. A Hyabusa provides about 1 horsepower for each 2.4 pounds of motorcycle. A Spyder RT-S provides about 1 horsepower for each 8.8 pounds. Figures don't include fuel and rider.

At the dragstrip during Spyderfest 2014, if I remember correctly, they were running the 1/4 mile in the mid to low 14's and high 13's.

    Horsepower and Speed.

Horsepower: for me, I always liked the ooommmmph provided by the Rotax 998 on the RS and GS models. Plenty of zip for me.

The 2010 and 2011 RT's, not so great. Plenty of power to get a ticket, but always felt a bit underpowered. I always left this up to the "barndoor" aerodynamics or the RT. The new 1330 engine in the 2014 RTS, seems to have solved the "underpowered" perception for me--IMO.

Speed: I am not one who has to test the limits of how fast something will go. I had my 2008 up to 100--one time. The 2010 up to 90 or so--one time, and the 2014 up to 85 or so. I usually drive at posted plus 5 - 7 mph depending on where I am. This speed, taking into account the 2 mph overstatement on my machines, keeps me off the radar when the enforcement LEO's are out and about. No tickets in over 14 years--and shooting for never again.

I do like to give the 's an occasional workout on the twisties. Most of the time, where I drive, I have them to myself.

Currently Owned: 2019 F3 Limited, 2020 F3 Limited: SOLD BOTH LIMITEDS in October of 2023.

    Previously : 2008 GS-SM5 (silver), 2009 RS-SE5 (red), 2010 RT-S Premier Editon #474 (black) 2011 RT A&C SE5 (magnesium) 2014 RTS-SE6 (yellow)

MY FINAL TALLY: 7 Spyders, 15 years, 205,500 miles

IT HAS BEEN A LONG, WONDERFUL, AND FUN RIDE.

That says it all right there. I have an RT and a Honda VFR800 sport touring bike and the VFR will walk away from the RT in any gear, RPM or speed. To be fair though, this is not an apples to apples comparison.

Thanks for the info. Now I won't have to try going that fast. Pretty sure I wouldn't anyway. Around 80 is probably my max. Cause my passenger controls my wrist. Seems like a lot of horsepower. I just know the Spyder is fast
