    Default Another 2014 Thread

Are there niggly bits associated with the 2014 RT? Indeed, there are - a noisy fuel pump, a front end that grinds on bad roads, but that's it for my RT. I just bought a 2015 Outback, and it's not perfect either - but in neither case, are the niggly bits really an issue, and all are correctable, with a wee bit of money and effort.

My RT likes to be shifted around 2K for the smoothest shift, but happily changes at 5K too. Unlike my 2010 with the SE, it will putt all day at 2K RPM, and has power from 1500 rpm - it's NOT a high revver - unlike my 2010 RT, I just have to pop the seat up to check the oil. Unlike my 2010, or any other 990, there's never been any kind of heat issue. Maintenance is less, less frequent, and less costly. Finally, it has a bigger fuel tank, and gets better milage than my 2010.

I could nit pick the bike all day, but it's far better than any of the 990s I have ridden - and frankly, I rather ride it. I'm sure that If I had a more serious issue (like the key bit), I might have a slightly less favorable view - but I doubt it. All of our toys have imperfections - I suspect , for the price, a new Bently might have fewer than most, but perhaps not.

I am pleased with my 2014 RT, very happy I made the change to it, and look forward to thousands of happy miles on it. Since I really didn't see any real changes with the 2015s, those should bring good service too.

I'm offering these thoughts as a counterbalance to negative posts. I was quite happy with my 2010, which never let me down, or failed to perform as I asked - again, I never saw the issues a few others mentioned - and I did invest in making her ride like I wanted. It's just that the 2014 IS better, and much better out of the box. We have all - including BRP - learned a lot in the last 5 years...

I'm just digusted. My 2014 RT-S has a sticky left saddlebag release. I am going to take it back and demand my money back.

My comments, re 2010 RT vs. 2014 RT are very similar. I run higher rpms on my 2014 (around 3,000) until I hit 6th gear, then, it is what it is.

I have had the opportunity to watch the brand grow year by year and have only missed out on two different year models.

The brand is getting better, and the customer service is improving--but far from perfect. Actually, like everything else, it will most likely never be perfect.

You probably don't weight 21 stone, or are 6'4" .. all conspire against lots of usable shock travel....

I was very happy with my 2012 RTL, never had any real issues with it and I have to say my 2014 RTL has met or exceeded all my expectation.

I had far too many issues with my 2011 RT, so I traded it on my 2014 RT. It's probably tempting fate to say this but I'm really liking the 2014.

    Default Totally Satisfied

As I mentioned in the other long thread on this topic, all of my experiences thus far are just questions for the tech at the 3K service. It's a good thing I wear a modular helmet or I'd be going through tooth brushes like crap through a goose scrubbing the bug laden teeth. Can you spell perpetual SEG?

I had the same problem with the saddlebag lids on on my 2014 RT-S. Took it back 2 times before the mechanic and I discovered ( while having the CB put in) that there is an adjustment screw on the lid release cable just above the tail lights. Take off the rear colored panel along the lower edge of the rear trunk ( sorry, I don't know the official name) to get to these adjusters. Note that you have to open the saddle bag lids to get to 2 screws along the back edge of the saddle bag, and open the trunk lid to get to the 4 screws along the edge of the open trunk.

The lids are still a little sticky when first opened in cold weather, but once opened, pop open nicely once the cables are adjusted.

One of my niggly bits was that the frunk wouldn't pop open when I turned the key - I had to reach forward & open it, while holding the key in position. Not a big deal, but one I eventually wanted to address. Then I bought the frunk liner, and low & behold, the frunk pops open. Then there was my issue about grinding off the underside of the RT on bad roads - now with Ron's sway bar and Doc's spring tensioners, that has gone away too!

The concern about the windshield support cracking, has been prophylactically corrected with the kit from "down under". I'll have the fuel pump looked at with my first service this spring, and get the RT aligned. I can't see any other issues to address for the coming season.

I see the green side of the grass, sun in the sky, and a stellar way to enjoy both....
