Default Yes, another heat thread: 2013 RT-S

Mostly just an fyi. A bit annoying since we already know the outcome but gotta jump thru the hoops I guess.

Sent an email to BRPCare about my roasted right foot and the very strong fuel smells once things were warmed up good.

    3 weeks, no response.

Sent another email with further data and reproduced symptoms. When I was down taking my drive test, I was afraid the gas fumes were going to get me kicked off the course as 'unsafe'!

Also forwarded email to service manager at my local shop.

Got next day response from both that they were communicating. Since I was due for service anyway, I brought it in.

Less than a week later: Service done. Test ride done. Noted no overheating of the engine (which was not my complaint obviously!) but did see a rich condition which has led them to warranty order; carbon canister, purge valve & heat shield.

    sigh.

We won't up here see 80 degree days again until next July, so the condition may go away..... for now. Oh well. Guess I'm back to doing my own anti-heat mods as previously planned

What irritates me is no consistent cohesive system in place to deal with this problem. Like I have said before, it is a hit or miss system. On a product that is not cheap.
    I really expected better.

The excessive fuel smell and dripping gas almost every place we parked our 13RTS is what forced us to take a "different" approach and now we are issue free on our new 14RTS. I sent e-mail to BRP and hand written letters with NO response and my dealer kept giving the same BS about overfilling the tank, ha! The fuel smell had my wife scared to even get on the bike! Good luck with you adventure, don't forget to file with NHSTA on the heat and fuel smell....
Sold my 14 RTS went back to 2 wheels.

I really haven't had much of a problem with heat around the saddle or the fumes that many speak of, but I have been doing short trips (150+/- miles). Well, I just got back from a 1,000 mile jaunt and it took 3 days to air out the garage. Wife was not happy because it is an attached garage. Had a hard time smelling the pot roast!! Honest, folks, I tried really hard NOT to over-fill the tank, but with a 120-150 mile range, I really didn't want to leave the station with a half tank of fuel either, just to compensate for BRP engineering - especially across the Great Plains!

I have had these same issues and two recalls later still the same problem. The frame in the 2013 was designed for the new engine and it's exhaust. 2013 frame is same as 2014. Exhaust from 2013 998 engine is forward, down across to left side then back across CAT to right hand side for muffler. This causes excessive heat under the tupperware and gas tank causing the fuel to boil and to emit gas fumes and excessive heat for the rider and passenger. 2014 exhaust goes strait down and strait back to inline CAT and muffler.

BRP will never solve the fume and heat problems on the wrong engine on the wrongly designed frame for the 998 engine.

2013's should be retrofitted with the 1330 engine and exhaust or $4-5000 dollar rebate on trade to 2014 or 2015.

After a dozen or so total burn ups of the Spider's (lucky no lives were lost) it is the least they can do. What effect are these gas fumes going to do on our future health??

Trade in value on the 2013 is now toast due to the fumes and excessive heat.

I don't have the foot heat issue but if the temp is above 80. My wife will not let me park in the garage when I come back from a ride until the spyder has had time to cool down because of the gas smell. I was hoping that the NHTSA investigation we heard so much about a month or 2 ago would amount to something, I guess not.

These things take a LOT of time to work themselves thru the NHTSA. I would be surprised if you hear anything before next year
