It's called circular reasoning. Sometimes I see it on here.

    Sorry but:

    1. They are all toys.
    2. They are all expensive toys
    3. The gov't lackeys list them all as "motorcycles", requiring the same endorsement and helmets (here anyway)
    4. The mechanical design is similar, especially for the Spyder and SlingShot - it's the same argument as comparing a Raptor 700 and Rzr as sand toys.
    5. All provide an increase level of stability and security.
    6. If you can call T-rex an motorcycle, the Slingshot is it's kid brother.

And there are new players coming - watch for Yamaha and Toyota to put something in the market within the next 24 months....

Polaris is really pushing the boundaries. My local dealer will have these and I will be test riding one.
IMO, Anything with a steering wheel is not a bike.
A steering wheel, passenger seat, an engine and transmission that size has entered car territory. In fact more like a three wheeled go kart that's street legal.

I like seeing all of these new vehicles come out though. Call 'em whatever, they all look to be some kind of fun. Once thought an Elio would be cool but I doubt that particular vehicle will show up.

Why do I want to test drive a Slingshot so much?

A Spyder is not a bike.Bike is short for bicycle,bi means 2 thus 2 wheels.A Spyder is a trike short for tricycle which means 3 wheels.A Polaris has 3 wheels which defines it as a trike.Steering wheels have absolutely nothing to do with it being a bike or trike.I guess Polaris could have put 1 seat in and handlebars had they wanted or for that matter Can Am could put a steering wheel of sorts on it instead of handlebars had they had the desire to do so.Just saying.

    Default didn't read the article

Doesn't seem to me like a comparison at all. To me to compare something it has to be of similar design. If you compare a reverse trike (not a kit), do it with another reverse trike (not a kit). Compare a regular trike kit to another regular trike kit. Compare a side by side with another side by side. Maybe i am over simplifying it but that is the way I see it. With that being said, My dealer will be getting the Slingshot, you bet I want to drive it. I can't see me buying one over a reverse trike but who knows, instead of selling or trading my spyder for a '15 model I could possibly keep the spyder and buy a slingshot. Frankly I don't see me being comfortable driving with my butt that close to the ground.

There are very limited number of three wheeled vehicles out there. I'd agree that a Spyder and a Slingshot are very different, the slingshot being much of a three wheeled sports car, but in the range that includes what is reasonably available to most consumers, a Spyder is as good a comparison as any.

To my mind, this is good coverage for both businesses as it serves to raise awareness.

I agree. I read the entire article & the columned comparisons. I do not believe that the writer was comparing apples to apples. IMO what he was comparing is that these types of vehicles are designed for the same market.

IMO ( again ), it seems to me that a lot of posters here seem to want to believe that these new 3-wheelers will not effect the sales of the Spyders. Sorry, I cannot believe that. It is the older crowd with the discrestionary money to spend.
