    Default OH YA! Another one

    Tire thread

I just took some good pics of my POS rear Kenda today 6804 miles. So I was bored this evening and decided to post them. This tire has never been inflated over 28psi and the last 3000 miles it has been at 24 to 25 psi (that did not help one bit). It is also not an RT so the assomption that the abnormal wear is due to the extra weight is probably false.

YEP! Kumho is on the way. I will not change it right away. I will get all I can out of the Kenda. I will install the Kumho right before I go to North Carolina in late August.

I think that you should celebrate the passing of the Kenda, by toasting it...

I am amazed at the big differences reported on tire performance of the OEM tires. I have a 2010 rt and ride two up all the time and don't spare the throttle. The rear tire pressure is at, 28psi, rear shock at, 60 psi and I am at 12,323. I am going to change it out within the next, 1000 miles. Why would there be a, 5-6000 mile difference??

I heard that BRP has now gone back to the 2012 tire specs. This tells me that they changed how they were made in 2013. If this is true than that would explain why so many 2014's and now 2013 are wearing out so fast compared to earlier years.

My 2010 went 7,000 miles, and was shot... The Kendas up front gave me VERY good service; over 17,000 miles.
    The rears... nope!

From now until 8/20 I will be only somewhat local. So if it is raining I will most likely not be on the road. But who know's, I may replace it earlier than that. Besides there is a lot of tread on the outside to sweep the water away.

I ride 2 up most of the time and was afraid to go that low on pressure. I thought I was pushing it at 24.

I'm usually one up but with the lighter load I do get a fair amount of wheel spin in first and second.

    Default Little checking..!!

I got 22,000 but used the manufacturer's wear limit point...20140408_173906.jpg There is a wear bar accross that triangle on the edge of the tire..

The older tires were better. The newer ones are junk.

Those Kumho's are getting hard to find. I did manage to snag 2 from a site today and will hopefully get them next week. My 2011 tire at just slightly over 10,000 looks like the one in the original post.

I have been thinking about trying 20 lbs. in the rear tire too, as light as my RS-S is, I would not think I need 30 lbs. of air in a tire of this size. Only problem is, I understand these Kenda tires when running lower tire pressures, balloon out at freeway speeds and that has been the only thing holding me back. By the way how does your Spyder handle hard cornering with the 20 PSI tire?

I was running recommended pressures for the first few thousand miles and noticed the center wearing more than the edges early on. The tire would also skip or bounce over cracks in the road surface under hard acceleration and the vss would activate occasionally, causing the engine to sputter. Lowering the pressure cured that completely and softened the ride also.
Handling feels fine under hard cornering too. As far as freeway speeds, I'm not sure since I'm not on the highway all that much, but there were some reports a few years back from other riders where lower pressures showed good results and tires wearing evenly at highway speeds.

My 2008 would wear in the middle around every 6K miles. Much sooner than others and discovered it was because of the speed I was running at. The faster you go the quicker the center will wear. Does not matter what tire pressure your run, it's due to the 2 ply design!

Tried everything from 24 - 30lbs. Settled on 28lbs but after 30K miles I can assure you pressure makes little to no difference in the wear.
