Default SM6 Clutch Noise and other assorted 2014 RT stuff..

Hi all.. I just sent my 2014 RT-S SM6 in for it's first checkup.. put 2500 miles on it this year and wanted to put it away fresh and clean.. so I am doing the first service a bit early..

A couple things I noticed and wanted to put out on the forum.. has anyone with an '14 RT-S SM6notice any difference in noise (whirring) when the clutch is released and the Spyder is in neutral?

I was told by the shop that to hear more whirring noise when the Spyder is in neutral when the clutch is released rather than pulled in is normal.. but this seems to have gotten louder as the Spyder has gotten broken in.. I wanted to hear what you sage folks think..

The other thing is that the shop is telling me there is a software update but I need the four digit key code he says was on the spare key when I go it.. I remember no such tag and the only thing I have is the part number (and hardware) for the spare cylinder for a matching trailer.. not sure where this is going to lead.. but it better not mean re-keying the Spyder..

I, like several on the forum, broke the stupid long antenna putting a cover on the Spyder and bending it.. I have put a shorty from Custom Dynamics.. it is ok.. but the shaft is thinner than the original.. can you buy the rubber boot without the hole in it does anyone know?

    Thanks All.. Love the forum!!

Some Ignition switchs on 2014 models will get stuck and leave you stranded. They know the ones that can happen on by the key code on the rubber tag that should have come with your keys. If you have one of the codes on the list they will replace your ignition switch and all your other locks to match as well. Find that tag!!

    Default Interesting..!!

They should be able to tell you especially if you got the roadster there. Original dealer should know. Codes are usually given in case you go elsewhere. Clutches do change sounds when ingaged but should not change that much. These new clutches are hydraulic would think they would be less noisey...

    How would the dealer know?

    Default FOUR DIGIT CODE

As far as Software updates goes, I would think the V.I.N. # would be what is important,.....................and as someone else stated your selling dealer should have a Record of the 4 digit #....................good luck.....Mike

In general, perfectly normal. When the clutch is engaged (lever released) and transmission in neutral, the input shaft of the transmission is now turning so you get noise from all the bearings and gears on it. When you pull the lever (disengage the clutch), the transmission is completely disconnected and no shafts or gears are turning. No noise. Try it on a manual transmission automobile. Big difference in sound. When the clutch is engaged and the input shaft is spinning, manual automobile transmissions sometimes even sound like a rattle and is known as gear rattle. Push the clutch to the floor and all the noise stops.
