    Default Bummer..!!

2014's and tires just don't mix...so to speak. There are many other car tires out there problem is hiw many miles are on them. Might search the site or there will be answers coming. Kuhomo stopped making that size but I know a member posted a list of sizes that will work...

Ordered Kumho 225 50R 15 ast today. I asked Manager at Discount Tires about tires being discontinued and he said he knew nothing about these particular being discontinued.

Falken Z1X92 is also a good tire for the Spyder.

The Falken is a good tire...
    BUT...
As it wears down; it becomes a hydroplaning thrill ride!

It just sort of lost it's edge; rapidly...
At 8,000 miles; it suddenly seemed as if a heavy dew, could incite all sorts of entertainment...
    But up to that point:

EDIT: Please don't mis-understand me... I really liked that tire! You just had to be aware of how it changed as the tread wore down...

Bob, the Kumho had a tendency to hydroplane too as it got miles on it.

I have gone to the Kuhmo and prefer it over the stock tire on my 2014.

I must admit I do not get it: 12,000 miles on a rear tire is not enough?? I never had a 1300cc bike on which the rear tire went to this mileage!! Heck even on my Ural sidecar I am happy when I get 4000 miles out of my pusher! On one side we all insist a Spyder is like a motorcycle but we want to have Prius costs??

My last Harley (2011 Road Glide Ultra 1687cc) I got 21,000 miles out of the stock Dunlop rear tire. My 2003 Harley (Road King bumped to 1687cc) I was able to get 12,000 miles out of a Dunlop Elite tire. Both tires handled great so it is possable to get better milage out of a good handling tire.

The issue here seems to be that most of us who have had experience with pre-2014 's have had good mileage on the OEM tires. I have received around 13,500 miles on four pre-2013's (rear tires). Don't know yet about the 2014.

Fronts have given me around 20,000 miles on 3 of the four pre-2014's. An alignment issue caused me to replace the 2011 fronts at 13,000.

All of a sudden, the tires are self-destructing way before we have been used to.

"12,000 plus miles and need ti replace my rear tire AGAIN "

Obviously it is not the first replacement nor do we know how many replacements have been done. Unfortunately 6000 on a Kenda is average some get more some less.

All I can say is that I didn't remember hydroplaning on the Kenda tire that I had on my 2010 or on the 2013. After the initial tire I replaced them with the Kumho's and I did hydroplane some as the tread was wearing down. On my 2014 original tire and on the 2014 test Spyder that I had, I never got rained on! One of the pleasures of living in the desert.

I believe that the opening poster is replacing her rear tire a second time or the original plus 2 replacements.

Yes, but there is a big difference between the round profile of a motorcycle tire and the flat profile of the car/Spyder tire. The flat profile will distribute the weight over a far larger area so it should wear less.

My OEM Kenda had also started to "Dance around", a bit more in the rain. It just didn't seem to "sneak up" on me, the way that the Falken did...

I haven't yet had the pleasure of getting caught in the rain with my Kumho, however I did hydroplane on both of my stock Kenda tires.

I have 8000 miles on my Kumho on my 2014 RTL already with no sign of wear but I had just over 30000 on the same tire Kumho Ecsta AST 225/50 R15 on my 2012 RTL when I traded it in.... This time of the year I seldom ride without some rain and I have had no hydroplaning issues
with the Kumho. It is however not difficult to break traction with the 2014 RT additional torque. I have done so on both the original OEM and the Kumho

Waiting to see if my dealer can order the Kumho tire. If I bring the tire in it's $187 for the labor. May just have hubby to do the tire change. if we decide to DIY anything we need to know about changing the tire?

Most people just order it themselves and have the dealer install it (if they are willing to do so). I think I got mine from Wal-Mart and did in store pick up (on my 2011).

Thats a real rip off! My dealer charges an hour labor and it actually takes them about half an hour.

Sounds about right for the dealer charge (2 hours labor). I have changed a lot of motorcycle tires, but none on the spyder. I had a dealer in Durango, CO replace my stock rear with the Kuhmo so it should be awhile before I need to change it again. When that time comes I will do it myself. Good luck on the DIY and let us know how it went.
