Warning!! Do not use the Insulation Snoopy used to wrap Gas Tank

Yep that is what I thought you used. It is not really for continuous exposure to sit above an engine. It is more for sound deadening on the interior sides of the engine bay or passenger compartment. The " and direct temperatures up to 300 Deg F" is a dead give away direct or indirect the temp softened it and it dropped off the tank. DEI has no such insulation and is like aluminum foil. Sorry to see the mess hope it all turns out well.

I have a 2012 RT-S SM5.

Is there something about model year 2012 that suggests the fuel tank should be wrapped?

I see a lot of that mentioned for 2013, but not 2012's.

Yes I have a 2012 RS but my friend has a 2013 ST-s. The problem with the Cool-It product is on the ST

I havent had any issue w it, and I only used it because others here recommended it.

After wrapping the ST-S gas tank with the Cool-it insulation that Snoopy used it started to melt within 20min. What a mess!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yikes Snoopy! Ya could da burned down the whole dog house. Did you check the temp limits? What would a wrap temp limit be for this situation?

I think that highlights the problem though of the gas tank reaching in excess of 300 degrees causing the adhesive to break down...

I have the Thermo Tec starter heat blanket between the gas tank and seat on the wife's RTS. It works good, cut the heat under the seat. I used the Thermo Tec cool shield tape on the fuel tank and it didn't stick.

Do you have a link of the blanket you used and any pics of it installed. Ours has always had issues with the heat under the seat. Especially in the summer. Makes it almost unrideable.
