    Default Hot oil smell

I've been on here a few weeks and getting as much information on my future purchase but haven't seen this yet.
I purchased a new 2014 RTS yesterday with 0 miles and on my 2 hour ride home I kept getting a real strong burnt oil smell, like when you spill oil on a hot engine. I even stopped to make sure the dipstick was secured. After I got home I let it set a few hours and then rode it in the evening and the smell was still there. There isn't any oil on the garage floor. The dipstick oil isn't dark.
I have broke in a lot of new vehicles and they all have their own smells. Is this normal for the 2014?
    Thank You

    Default Don't know..!!

there were some problems with the case screws leaking but should have been fixed. This could blow back to the cta and or pipes and burn off. I would check to see if this fix was done. You can call the dealer and ask them to check by vin#...only other would be oil in the air box leaking out or water pump but not likely..you should not have a lingering smell any set up fluids would be gone after a few miles of ryding...

We had a similar hot oil smell on our 2014 RT-S. It went away after a thousand miles or so.

New bike breaking in smell. If its not leaking oil on the floor or the dipstick showing oil use, you should be okay.

    on your new ryde.

After letting it set overnight there was a puddle of oil on the floor. I took body panels off to see if I could see where it is coming from. All I could find was oil all under the engine and on the bottom covers. I could not see where it is coming from. The oil level was below the add mark.
I'll contact the dealer Monday to get it looked at.

    Default Update on oil leak

Just a follow up on my oil leak. I trailered it for the two hour trip to the dealer. Found it to be a set screw that was loose on the motor. Apparently there had been a bulletin about this awhile back. My VIN did not show as having this problem. The set screw was loose and didn't have any lock tight on it. The dealer replaced it with the new one and put lock tight on it.
    Thanks to those that responded.

Thanks for posting. This was a problem early on and was supposed to be fixed at the factory. Units that had already left the factory were supposed to be fixed by dealers prior to delivery via a repair bulletin. Glad you got it all solved and that you are back on the road.

Seriously both BRP and their dealers need to get their act together...are you listening Steve? This should have never happened and does not give us faith that BRP is delivering safe reliable vehicles. Oil can catch fire is that what it will take for them to make SURE this never happens again?

My RTS was built in May 2014 and the VIN didn't show that it needed this repair. There is a problem in the system somewhere

I purchased my 2014 RTL in November of 2014. I had the dealership run the Vin recently, and mine was not shown to need the repair. I'm guessing due to it being caught earlier in the year and already addressed by BRP before, and the manufacturing date was after the find and before being released to the dealer for sale. Anyway I still have a burning oil smell. Not using any oil, and though I have not really looked under the tupperware, I have no noticeable leaks, but that was reported by many also who had the set screw leak.
