Question OEM Horn function when bike is off?

Can someone else confirm for me if their horn works even with the bike off / key removed?

OM doesn't mention it as a 'feature' and I just want to make sure something is not crossed somewhere.

    Thanks.

PS: this is on a 2012 RTS

    I think it's a safety regulation requirement.

    Default Horn

My 2012 horn works when engine is off and key removed. Scared the heck out of me when I accidentally discovered it.

    Default Thanks Everyone!

Thank you for all the input! Glad to know its not a 'flaw' I found.

I am in the process of putting in the Stebel and thought I'd also use that + lead to feed my voltmeter thinking it was on switched power; that is how I discovered it was not cause the meter never turned off.

Ok, good to know then. I can easily tap into a different switched power lead, so no big deal.

    Thanks again!

I was surprised to find that the hazard lights worked with the key off.

They didn't on my wing. The reason they gave was to keep kids and other malcontents from turning them on and running the battery down while you were away from the bike.

Now having the hazard lights work when the bike is off does make sense to me ... for if you are ever stopped on the side of the road, you'd want to have those on even with the engine off.

Yeah, wiring of the horn addition is pretty straight forward and easy; but I've also a few other things in the works too

Good thing I started early to get ready in time for Durango.

will there be a easy way to make this gone?

kids can play with the light and horn and battery can go flat.

    Or even more likely...

The horn switch is in the ground lead side of the horn. The power side is always hot.
