Hitch Fender

I've been working on a hitch fender for some time now and I finally got exactly what I wanted. I just installed the 6th prototype on my spyder a minute ago and that took 5 minutes so I was happy with the install. So when I get back from SpyderFest I'm ordering a bunch of fenders and setting up a production on them.

What's involved with the install, any drilling etc and roughly how much?

I put a block of wood on the floor then using some small C clamps got the fender in position then using a cordless I screwed the 4 self drilling screws in. I hate to say the price until I get all the costs in but something in the $100 range I think. It's a tiny bit big for my powder coat oven as I can only get one in at a time which is not economical from a electric standpoint so I have to use an outside source for powder coating and I need to see what he will charge to do a batch of them.

Yea and it does two things the OEM didn't do, not drag on the curb and keep crud off your trailer and stop the rooster tail up your back... ok 3 things better than OEM

looks great. A bit hard to see but once you do it is a clean neatly done item. Should be a big seller from all the trailer searches selling and buying going on. Hope your powder coater will be reasonable and you can keep your costs down...

The guy that powder coats my big stuff like fence panels has quite an operation and can powder coat a whole car frame! He is very good and keeps his cost down with low overhead. He does live out in the boonies in North East Arkansas so it is quite a drive from the boonies in Swamp East Missouri but it is worth it.

I'll be ordering the fenders when I return from SpyderFest then make up a jig to weld on the brackets.

Nice work! You might want to use some type of rivet nut instead of self tappers for longevitys sake though

The only thing that worries me is that it is real close to the rear tire if you ran over something it could jam up the tire and possible flip the bike

I wonder if the plastic rivets like are currently on some parts of the spyder would be strong enough to hold it yet weak enough to snap in that type of event.

But on the other hand, the trailer hitch is fixed right there so would something big enough to do that even make it up in between the fender due to the hitch?

The plastic rivets would not last very long in shear with two metal parts.

If you ran over anything big enough to flip the Spyder the fender will be the last thing you would worry about.

4 screws are a lot harder to sheer then you think i was think about trailer truck tires pieces that are scattered all over the road just a lot of liability
