    Default SE5 CLUTCH EXPLODED

On my way to Spyderfest yesterday, and while traveling down Interstate 35 north of Des Moines Iowa, my spyder lost power, pulled to the side of road in a HUGE cloud of smoke, got stopped and all the oil ran down the ditch. Two hours later, at a dealership for spyders, the mechanic gave me the BAD news. Whole engine needa to be tore apart to look for shrapnal ect, long process, Now what???? For sure no spyderfest, w2ould have been year 4. Any one else have this happen? Put this on wrong site, I have a 2012 RT.

SE-5 clutch issues... We just had a thread going about someone who lost the centrifugal engagement clutch...
    And now this!
Sorry to hear that this happened... Is there any way to rent a Spyder from the dealership, and continue the journey?

    Default Wow..!!

Many have had the clutch go out but not as bad as you explain. Would be interesting to see if they find what caused it. I know there are some weight differences but most just start to slip or cause shifting problems...sorry..

I would be contacting BRP CARE and informing them of the situation. This is for sure something that BRP should be involved in. With their current pro-active stance--let's see what transpires.

Go over to Hicklin powersports in Grimes and tell Joe you need to trade for a new Spyder . That 2014 RT would be a nice upgrade plus I personally don't like owning things that have had catastrophic failures.

I can tell you from experience that Hicklin Powersports has taken care of me. Travis the head mechanic is very god and won't release a machine unless he is satisfied it's fixed. Lets hope they can get it fixed and back to you quickly.

Neal so sorry to hear this happened. If by chance you can get something going, Butch and I will be heading down after work on Tuesday, April 29. You could meet up with us. We'd love to have join us.

Sorry to hear this, how many miles did you have on it? Run synthetic or blend? Curious I'm coming on 27 k on mine but last fall my dealer put 20/50 instead of 10/40 amsoil I was pissed but rather than waste another day I changed it out. Hoping it did no damage

BRP is definitely in the proactive mode right now ... get them involved. I'm not sure if it's a result of their Customer Service fiascos but they are definitely evolving their 'hands-on' approach and in a good way.
